Old world grandeur, but a bit tired
This is a very old-school hotel that has almost certainly seen better days, but maintains a sort of old world grandeur that I quite liked. The rooms are huge and the service is good, but I'm not sure that it really merits "5 stars" if you compare to other hotels of that description. It is worth noting that most of the grand hotels in Montecatini Terme seem to be in similar condition.

The staff was generally very helpful and the location was very central. Unfortunately, the hotel is very dated and needs an update (think Grand Budapest Hotel). Three of the four lights in the hallway to our room were not working and took two days to get fixed. Several lights in our room were not working, although this wasn't an issue as there was still plenty of light. Rooms were clean and comfortable though. Limited selection for breakfast. No English TV channels.

The hotel is a very beautiful building with lots of character. The property holds a lot of promise. But the facility itself needs a lot of work. no way is this a five-star hotel. Although the check-in service was excellent, for a 5-star hotel it falls flat. The bathroom facilities were mediocre at best. The swimming pool required cleaning. The huge Whirlpool tub required cleaning . the hotel does not even offer coffee or tea in the rooms or water. More money is required to bring this place up to Snuff and it can be done. But right now I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

This is an opulent palatial hotel with a large pool. The common areas are magnificent. Service extremely friendly for such a grand hotel — we were bicycle touring with high-end bikes which they put in a locked room. The breakfast was way above average.

Hotel is a tired old lady
The hotel is centrally situated to shops and restaurants. The hotel is old and owners have made effort to update but it still has the look of a tired old lady. The bed was so hard your bones hurt the next morning. The nightclub across the street played loud music till 2 am making sleep impossible. The room on the ground floor had mosquitoes because windows were left open all day to air the room..no window screens. There was no heat or ac in the room because " it is between seasons" the staff did provide an extra blanket upon request. The food was mediocre, better food available at local restaurants. Overall it was a so so hotel. Lacked amenities one expects, e.g coffee machine in room, ice machine availability, iron and ironing board and FAST internet connection.

A beautiful hotel, in a good location, which would significantly benefit from an improvement in its air conditioning system (which is both noisy and hopeless to regulate either the temperature or the fan speed), an enrichment of its rather basic breakfast buffet, and finally some serious redecoration of the totally empty walls and pitiful carpet in the corridors.

This is a hotel with history
A hotel with a history that has been upgraded! Beautiful pool and garden, friendly service and wonderful sculptures dotted around the grounds. Basic room booked but it was a suite! All staff lovely, loaned a voltage converter, allowed an extra hour or so in our room. Would recommend highly.

Great location in a great town of the beaten track
This hotel is located right in the middle of everything. It's a short walk to everything including the train station. There is no need to rent a car to explore this beautiful little town. Make sure you take the "train" up to the Alto part of town too that the front desk recommended that we do. For the cost of the room, this place was great. The next time I go back to Italy, I plan on staying here again. Nice pool but it is not heated.

Great location. Great staff.
Magnificent, grand spa hotel. Excellently trained staff but not stuffy. Great restaurant but spendy. Only problem is the noise in some rooms, with loud bars across the street. You have to close the French doors but then the room gets too warm. The hotel has the computerized temp control and we were unable to get the room less than 26° C. This was never resolved but we were willing to overlook this because of the otherwise excellence of the hotel.

Very Disappointing
This hotel is very grand but also very tired and very much in need of refurbishment. We have stayed in other old grand hotels in Italy but at least the common areas are well looked after, not here. A few of the staff were really nice and helpful but the vast majority just didn't seem to care - something very surprising in Italy. We travel to Italy at least twice a year (three times this year) and the service at this hotel is the worst we have ever had.

Huge, desolate feeling hotel
I perhaps came on the off-season, but the hotel was incredibly huge, but desolate. Felt a little eery being there. The hotel was in good conditions, but felt a little like it used to be a grander place. The main town in general felt this way. The old Montecatini town up on the hill was gorgeous though and very easy to get to.

Huge nostalgic hotel
The Grand Hotel La Pace has seen better days but is peaceful and restful except for Friday night (don't know about Saturday as we had left by then) when loud music from nearby bars/cafes went on till very late. Our spacious double room had recently been refurbished art deco style with a huge bathroom and two basins. Surprised to find only one chair in the room but another chair was quickly delivered at our request. Reception staff were courteous and helpful. There was no room safe so had to use the reception desk's. The only restaurant open for lunch was at the poolside and had a very limited menu, with 75 per cent of the listed dishes "Unavailable". The wifi was free and reliable in the room.

Charming hotel
Grand hotel is a great description. Beautiful building. We were in the older part of the hotel and loved it. The front desk staff was incredible. Always remembered us and were very friendly. Would gladly stay again
