Gorgeous family-sized rustic Holiday Chalet in Arthurs Pass. Tranquil setting!

"Base Camp," as we fondly refer to it, is a picturesque wooden chalet nestled into the side of Mount Bealey. Adorned with adzed wooden beams, a substantial rock-faced fireplace, and exposed wood interiors, it exudes the cozy ambiance of a mountain chalet, which it truly is!

Enveloped by beech trees, you can often spot New Zealand's native birds, such as Toutouwai (robins) and Korimako (Bellbirds), right from the living room sofa or the deck. This is the perfect retreat for your family, offering a relaxing escape from the city, and a chance to savor one of New Zealand's most stunning locations—Arthur's Pass.

Base Camp is just a short walk away from the village center yet enjoys a serene and tranquil setting. If you listen carefully, you might even hear the occasional kiwi at night.

Upstairs, there's a private and sheltered deck, along with space outside in the garden for kids to run around of have a BBQ, taking in the great mountain views and the therapeutic embrace of nature. The clear night sky, especially during the winter with snow-clad mountains, is a an amazing sight, perfect for stargazing.

You'll be a brief walk from Arthur's Pass Village, where you can indulge in pizza at the local restaurant, The Wobbly Kea.

The Mt. Bealey track, boasting panoramic views of the entire Arthur's Pass valley, lies just under 5 minutes away. This area boasts numerous enchanting walking tracks, each offering a distinct experience—some leading to waterfalls, others meandering alongside rivers or Tarns, and a few ascending high into the mountains. Embarking on the ascent into the mountains begins with a stroll through the lush native forest, adorned with ferns and a rich undergrowth. As you ascend, the forest gradually thins, revealing breathtaking views from the mountain summits.

Whether you seek the challenge of a strenuous day-long trek or the ease of a short, leisurely walk, the options unfold right from the doorstep. For comprehensive details about these trails, we invite you to explore the DOC website..

Great house amd fabulous location
We were 4 adults and 3 kids and had plenty of room. Very spacious house. Clean and comfortable. Was a bit cold initially but once we lit the fire and used the heat pumps the house was nice and warm. Highly recommend and would stay there again!

Great place to stay and explore
Wonderful, warm Basecamp for exploring the Arthur's Pass area. Clean and well appointed house with lots of living space. Great fire and heating for those cold winter days. I would have given it five stars if it had a hot tub, like of said in the listing description! Great place nonetheless!

Comfortable Spacious Chalet at Arthurs Pass
This well-equipped chalet provides a comfortable base from which to explore this area. Comfortable beds and good heating options for keeping warm and toasty. Lots of walks nearby and options to eat out. Enjoyed train watching too.

Disliked: Cleanliness, property conditions & facilities
We were disappointed with this place regardless of the good reviews left by others. We departed a day early because it was not a good experience: mouse traps next to clean wine glasses, a mix of many wires on either side of the bed, and a old smelling first level forced us to leave early. I contacted the owner, Heidi, and her response was:’ this has never happened before’—and that was all.

Excellent large, spacious rustic and very quaint lodge huge balcony to relax. With excellent view of mountains and Arthur pass railway. Very clean for such a rustic cottage. Perfect location for strolling to the Devils punchbowl waterfall(5mins walk to foot of waterfall and 30mins climb). Beautiful birdsong and stargazing from balcony. Loved our 2night stay. Beautiful bach!
We loved staying here - just down the road from the village and close to lots of walks into the surrounding beech forest. On rainy days the large open fire in the lounge was a great place to gather around. Thanks for making this place available.

Older than it appears in photos
The house was very roomy with a well stocked kitchen, but it was actually older than it appears in the photos. When we first entered the house , it smelled smoky and musty, but we opened all the windows and took care of that. Good luck trying to work with the three remotes required to operate the TV!

Perfect spot for exploration of Arthur’s Pass
We had a really great time at Arthur’s Pass; hiking the plethora of walking trails that are in the area. The house itself had everything we needed; plenty of space and a well-stocked kitchen. It was pretty cold and rainy for the whole of our stay, but the fire made the house feel cosy. Heidi was great to deal with and made check in etc a breeze. We’d definitely stay again if we found ourselves back in the area.
