Restful and relaxing holiday cottage in South West France with swimming pool

This charming hideaway holiday cottage is situated in the heart of the most productive wine growing area of France. You will love the amazing views of the surrounding vineyards and rural landscapes that make this holiday home special.
The cottage has one spacious bedroom that has beautiful, old oak beams, a king sized bed and a small single bed that doubles up as a comfortable, cushioned sofa where you can relax and unwind. There is also a mirrored, traditional, art nouveau wardrobe and marble topped dressing table. Freshly laundered bed linen is provided and can be changed if guests are staying for more than one week. From the bedroom window you can see the surrounding hillsides covered in vines and woodland and from time to time the deer that wander through the gardens.
The generously sized bath room is fully tiled and modern with a large walk in shower and modern sanitary ware with a fully tiled floor and heated towel rail. Egyptian cotton towels are provided, as well as pool towels. We also provide Rituals shower gel, hand wash, shampoo and conditioner.
Downstairs the living area is airy and light with french doors leading out to the decked dining and outdoor seating spaces. The living room boasts a large, stone French fireplace and this houses a log burner which keeps the place warm and cosy during any spring, autumn or winter breaks. The sofa and large armchair have been chosen with comfort in mind so that you can read your holiday novel, watch the satellite TV or a DVD in peace.
The living space also includes a dining table that can be extended, together with four chairs. There is also an under stair storage space that is used to hideaway the ironing board, laundry equipment and of course, the traditional French basket to take on your market and shopping trips.
Your kitchen area is modern and very well equipped and you will find a large fridge freezer, electric fan oven, gas hob, extractor fan, microwave, washing machine, Nespresso coffee machine, kettle, toaster and dishwasher here. The cupboards, as well as the large, French art nouveau dresser in the living area, contain all the glasses, plates, pots and pans you could wish for, not forgetting the all important corkscrew and fixed bottle opener. We provide condiments, olive oil, tea, coffee and your welcome pack will include wine, pastries, bread, jam, fruit, yoghurt and other goodies to see you through your first evening and/or morning.
Outside you will find a decked area with a dining table and chairs, an awning for shade when needed and another small table and chairs to move in and out of the sun depending on your needs. Dotted about the grounds and garden is a range of comfortable cushioned sofas, armchairs and tables. There is also a BBQ for outdoor eating.
The gardens are extremely spacious and there are shaded and sunny areas to sit, as well as a hammock under our beautiful mulberry tree. Finally, the swimming pool invites you to have a refreshing dip every now and then. You can also sit and relax around the pool on sunloungers which are provided with soft mattresses. Portable parasols can also be found at the poolside so that you can choose when or when not to have some shade.
If you love wine this is a great place to visit - there are 7,375 wine producing châteaux in the region, producing over 10,000 different wines each vintage and 900 million bottles of the stuff. We know some of the local wine growers and can arrange vineyard tours and wine tastings if you would like us to. Otherwise, you can drive around the area and pop in to châteaux for your own bit of fun.
We are very close to Saint Émilion, an area renowned worldwide for its wine as well as the fact that it is a spectacular UNESCO world heritage site. You will love visiting this beautiful village with its amazing views, fantastic bars and restaurants and of course food and wine shops.
Bordeaux, the second most visited French city after Paris, is only an hour away and this is our favourite city. It boasts some superb architecture, the largest reflecting pool in the world (the water mirror) and the Cité du Vin, which, apart from being an amazing architectural feat is the most interesting wine museum you could ever wish to visit and you can top your visit off with a free wine tasting on the top floor whilst looking out over the Garonne River.
If you love French food, wine and other local wares, you can visit a nearby market every single morning of the week. These include the largest regional market at Sainte-Foy-La-Grande, which boasts art work during the spring and summer, and the medieval village market at Issigeac. Whether large or small, the markets are a real treat for all your senses and it's difficult to come away empty handed.
On the Atlantic coast, about 1.5 hours away, is the Dune du Pilat - the tallest and biggest dune in Europe. It is definitely worth the trip because the views from the top are unbeatable with thick, green forests on one side of the dune and blue Atlantic Ocean on the other. You can enjoy a picnic here with French bread and cheese or pop into one of the cafés at the bottom of the dune.
Finally, there are many other activities to enjoy nearby such as hiring a canoe to glide gently up or down the Dordogne River which is only 10 minutes away. Or, there are plenty of fishing spots if that's what takes your fancy, as well as the Château de Vigiers golf course which is also famous for its Michelin starred restaurant.
Of course, there are plenty of local restaurants and glorious food shops and stalls selling macarons, canelés (a local Bordeaux speciality), cheese, chocolate, sausages and other meats and locally grown fresh vegetables and fruit. You are in for such treats if you stay at Le Peuplier!
Make yourself comfortable in this cottage, which features a fireplace. There's a private patio. A kitchen is outfitted with a refrigerator, an oven, and a stovetop. Satellite programming and a DVD player are provided for your entertainment, while complimentary wireless internet access keeps you connected.
Enjoy recreational amenities such as an outdoor pool and a fitness center.
Guests will find features like internet access and onsite parking.

Extremely relaxing and peaceful
Penny and Mike were very welcoming hosts and were keen to ensure that we had a relaxing and enjoyable stay. The gîte was very well equipped and the outside space was particularly good, with comfortable chairs and shade if required. We would have no hesitation In recommending Cousserat if you want a relaxing break in beautiful surroundings.

Beautiful, well equipped gîte in peaceful location
We really enjoyed our week in this very comfortable gite. The evenings we spent on the terrace overlooking the surrounding vineyards and watching the sunsets were perfect. The owners have provided everything you could possibly need! Very thoughtful and welcoming, and were on hand if we needed them.

Fantastic Relaxing Week
Beautifully thought out, high end finish, very well equipped holiday cottage. Mike and Penny made us feel very welcome, especially accommodating my early swims! Well positioned for visiting St. Emilion, Bergerac and Bordeeaux. Great recommendations for places to visit, eating out, including a categorized leaflet folder so you don't miss the 'must sees'. Would definitely recommend and stay again, FIVE STAR

One of the best places we’ve stayed in France!
Mike and Penny were truly superb hosts and made our stay at Cousserat really enjoyable. The gite is situated in a peaceful location overlooking a fabulous vineyard. The sunsets in the evening were magical. All the amenities you would need are within a short driving distance. Highlights of places to visit included St Emilion, a local organic vineyard / wine tasting, local markets, Bordeaux city, Dune du Pilat and Duras to name a few. The gite has been very tastefully decorated, is comfortable, private and has everything you could possibly need. We were very impressed by the attention to detail making our stay like home from home. It was great to use the pool on hot days and dry off on the comfortable sun loungers. Whilst there are lots of restaurants nearby we opted to dine in every evening so that we could enjoy the setting and comfort of the gite. The BBQ was a very welcome addition. Penny and Mike made the holiday very special and were on hand to help with any queries we had. They kindly left some food and wine for us upon arrival, which was gracefully received after a long journey. Their blackberry jam should win an award! We very much hope to be back. We would highly recommend staying here.

Wonderful spotless gite! friendly hosts in beautiful setting. Excellent holiday.
Not long home from our wonderful family holiday at Mike & Pennys gite. Excellent experience in all from great communication with Penny from day 1 where she was so helpful with regards to us bringing our toddler. Penny ensured we had all we needed to make our stay a home from home. In a lovely lovely location about an hour from Bordeaux and Bergerac. Easy to find. We arrived to a warm welcome from both Penny & Mike where Penny showed us around the gite. We were delighted that the place looked just like the photos. So beautiful! Awesome to have a welcome basket of milk eggs bread etc. Really clean property with all you could need. We loved the power shower and the towels were so cosy and thick! What I liked was they had thought about what guests might like to do throughout the day in terms of sitting outside. So there is a table and chairs set up for breakfast watching the sun come up, a rattan furniture set for watching sunset...a hammock and more comfortable seating around too. On our first morning in the gite I woke up and searched for my glasses, popped them on and looked out of the window above the bed. Wow. A window to heaven! Beautiful beautiful sunrise viewing window from bed. What a way to start the day. Then from the opposite window you have stunning views of the neighbouring vineyards. Coffee machine, english tv, lots of local leaflets and info for days out provided. Desk fan in bedroom- appreciated. The pool was spotless and my Husband enjoyed a lovely swim or two, sadly our toddler didnt brave the temp of it for a 2nd time! Can't be helped we should have timed it better and gone later in the day when the sun had been on it all day. We enjoyed a few hours chatting with Mike & Penny and wine on the decking, very kind and interesting people. Our son was absolutely ecstatic that there was a old tractor on the property grounds he admired it every single day then on the last full day we had there Mike offered to drive the tractor around so my son could see it in action. Truly made his holiday! Wow wow wow he said. Thanks Mike- things like that make special memories for me. We highly recommend this gite for its cleanliness and friendly hosts in a lovely location. Our only tiny issue we found was the bed made a loud creak when you got up and would wake the other person up. However we didnt say anything at the time- if we had i am certain Mike would have looked at it for us. Choose this place you won't be disappointed! Merci beaucoup!!

Sun soaked paradise....
We loved our stay in this beautiful gite. Definitely a home-from-home with everything you could possibly need for a (more than) comfortable stay. The place has a lovely high end finish and was spotlessly clean which was really appreciated. This, paired with a beautiful garden setting and fabulous pool and we will definitely be back for more.... sooner the better. Many thanks to Penny and Mike who were the prefect hosts.
