Royal Sonesta is a fabulous place to stay. The staff are friendly and kind. Always giving you the feeling that going above and beyond is a normal day to them. Room was excellent! Highly recommend, and will be coming back to next time I visit Baltimore!

Location is great for the bay, museums, restaurants. HVAC controls were good, BUT there is no bar for sports, no good breakfast option in hotel (walked 0.3 miles to a great breakfast place). Carpets are worn/unraveling/dirty in spots, wallcovering stained in spots, WiFi was terrible - didn't work with business VPN connections (had to use a hotspot instead), room was ready at 4 pm check-in, but getting in any earlier was pointless as we arrived at 1:30 on a Sunday when the hotel was almost empty and they still didn't have a room ready until after 4 pm. Staff was polite but seemed more interested in the football game on their front desk TV.

Room was large, bed and pillows quite comfy, quiet. Good location near the inner harbor and convention center. All good. Main weakness was a lack of decent food options for breakfast - there is a coffee shop off the lobby, but the egg and biscuit sandwich was not very good (and over-microwaved and soggy).

The room was not clean. I saw visible crumbs on the love seat and on the floor. The bathroom was in the same situation. Anyone can access the floors. There was no restriction on the elevators. I will not go back there.

Lower your expectations
Though listed as a 4star hotel, the hotel does not clean the rooms daily, unless requested. However, this policy was not on any information we received before our stay or explained by the person who checked us in. We returned late in the evening to find our room had not been serviced. The front desk did not answer our calls because they were understaffed. We had to go back downstairs to explain the situation. The best they could do was send us more towels. The person who brought the towels only brought one set and had to go back for a second set.

Reception sent me to the wrong room upon arrival after a highly annoying journey. Shower in room did not work which I found out in the morning when I was on my way to a meeting. So had to hang my head below the bath faucet Hotel restaurant only serves dinner.

We stay here every October when in town for the running festival. Perfect location to all things downtown. Excellent staff, always clean, always a relaxing place to be. One year they allowed us a later checkout time so that we could still shower after the race, and they’ve also let us use the health club to shower after the races when it wasn’t possible to extend our checkout time. If parking in the garage they will validate your parking ticket to reduce the rate. Highly recommend staying here!
