This place was a perfect little quiet getaway. The food onsite is some of the best food we had in Costa Rica. I highly recommend the pescado for lunch/dinner. We did not have 4WD but we made it just fine and left the site every day for site seeing. Don’t let the 1st downhill discourage you, once you get to the bottom of it it’s pretty easy road from there. We do love in Utah and are used to off-road driving, so if you’re not used it dirt roads it may be a little intimidating. We timed the drive from the dirt road turn off and it was about 20 minutes. The cabin was very rustic with a beautiful deck and a fridge. It was also lovely to hear the rain storms on the tin roofs at night.
Sketchy long dirt bumpy road, like camping not a hotel. No flushing toilet paper, etc. If you have a 4x4 and we’re planning on camping, this might be a match, but we were NOT. Kellie was friendly and nice, but you have to be in the mood for a totally different experience to stay here
It was an adventurous stay! We loved the lodge because it was a rustic adventure with wonderful staff, but it isn't a five-star resort. We arrived in the afternoon and relaxed on the finca watching the toucans and the other wildlife. Dinner at the lodge was delicious but it is not a normal restaurant where you order whatever you want. The next day we hiked Rio Celeste and rode horses. We had a blast! The last day there we toured the finca and planted a cacao tree. The only negatives: The road in and out of the lodge is terrible. You don't have to have a 4x4 but almost. Mosquitos! Take good insect repellant or they will eat you alive. Don't expect anything posh, but expect a unique stay with wonderful staff.
Great to be, comfortably,
in touch with nature. The private cabins are super charming and surely the best part of the stay. Beautiful property, fun to learn how to make your own chocolate. Do the long finca Tour, it’s a great experience. Food was good and so was the service. It’s off the beaten track but that’s what makes it so special. Perfect location to go hike the Rio Celeste. We will never think of chocolate the same way again.
Our room (Amistad) was excellent as was everything else. Mosquitos and other biting insects outside quite annoying and persistent despite all the deet but hey, it's a cacao farm and they need mosquito-friendly environment for proper polination 😉 The dinner was superb. Do not attempt the access road from road #4 even if navigation leads you there, it is impassable even in 4x4. The dirt road from Byjagua is doable with amazing views all along.
Fantastic setting, sloths in the trees on property! Authentic, friendly, working organic cacao farm. Excellent included tour by Luis. Optional chocolate making experience for extra charge. Wonderful home cooking, both breakfast and lunch. Beautiful, semi-rustic accommodations, tasteful aesthetic throughout. Enjoy!
This is more adventure : bungalows un a rain forest. A cacao plantation farm. You can make tour own chocolate bars. T he finca is close to Tenorio National Park and rhe blue waters of Rio Celeste .
It was the most unique hotel experience we had during our trip to Costa Rica. Family-owned farm with beautiful scenery, extremely friendly staff and delicious food. Wish we could have stayed there for at least 1 more night. The possibilities of the tours of the farm is a plus. 4 x 4 recommended to get there from the main road.
SO natural, new &clean. Terrific staff, amazing local dinner. Chocolate to die for. High quality amenities despite being very rustic. I would go back. The road in is rough but quite doable in summer. Everything was eco-friendly; what I saw of the property was all good. They may have trouble with ants in the future, but this is the campo, not some soft resort. A genuine experience, not the same old tourist stuff.
First time in Costa Rica, most amazing place to stay, in the jungle, people and staff were incredible, housing was unique and more than I expected, food was authentic and absolutely amazing and the tour of the farm was a highlight. A must see.
