Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Hostel and staff were fine, socket positions and introduction of bunk curtains in dorms would be useful
Great location, friendly staff, clean rooms. This was our first time in a hostel. We were very impressed with the overall location and facilities. Lovely to wake up in the morning and hear the birds singing and the stream running past outside. Pub close by for evening meals.

Nice yha hostel in the middle of the Lakes
It's a youth hostel, so don't expect 5-star luxury. Having said that, our 5-bedded room was nice, the bathroom facilities were fresh and clean, the lounge areas were comfortable, the food was good, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The price was reasonable, and it's in a splendid location. What more could you want??
Close to Scarfell pike. Can walk up Scar fell from hostel.
Wifi was terrible and didn't work at all for me but I know it did for some people.
Had a 5 bed private room which was lovely but one of the beds is a double. Fine for us as we only had 4 people.
We came up just for one night before climbing Scafell Pike as I'm currently in training for Everest Base Camp. Hostel was great, room was comfy and very glad we paid the extra for the breakfast as it set us up for the the long day ahead. Staff were very helpful and I'd definitely recommend.
Generally very good.Breakfast was good, but meal club in evening was disappointingThe standardised menu for each day gives no alternative for a
vegetarian.to the set main course and sweet.
Despite the booking saying "private bathroom" there was in fact 2 toilets and 2 showers for the entire block, that being for men and women! The bathroom area was wide open without a door. The toilets were dirty with skid marks. The beds were smaller than a single bed and uncomfortable. The carpet was very dirty with marks all over. The location was around a 40 minute drive from the wasdale head car park to climb scafell pike which was ok. I have stayed in a YHA in the lake district before which was much more comfortable, cleaner and more appropriate bathroom facilities for men and women. Would not recommend.
The hotel is situated with the prefect view of the Lake District Hills. The room suited our needs and the self catering kitchen and the use of the laundry was a big plus. The big lounge area with the open fire was a great place to sit at night. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The cooked breakfast was good value. Just note that if using a GPS don't let it take you there via the hill passes.
