Perfect hotel for the price in a central location.
Great hotel for the price you pay and very nicely decorated rooms.
I've seen previous reviews saying negative things about this hotel however I have not experienced any of the things I read that were negative about this hotel.
Let me list some of positives about this hotel.
1- big rooms and comfy beds.
2- beautifully decorated bathrooms.
3- always have hot water seems like an endless supply.
4- very friendly reception staff
5- nice little breakfast in the morning
6- very friendly lady who does the cleaning and breakfasts
7- very accessible to everything in downtown Cairo
8- little shop right outside hotel and a restaurant and cafe
9- air conditioning and wifi!
10- very clean rooms
11- very affordable
Now the hotel is in one of the oldest cities in the world so people who come here expecting the Ritz Carlton are just silly people.
The building is old and obviously not brand new looking in the stairways but the hotel and rooms itself is beautiful and we'll kept.
The only negative I had was when I was looking out my window (I was on 5th floor)
This man in the building next to the hotel started taking my picture with his cellphone from his apartment. I was very uncomfortable about that however it has nothing to do with the hotel and everything to do with the man's personality.
Other then that this hotel was perfect for me a solo male traveler and I had no complaints.
Would recommend to friends and would stay again.
This property being advertised as a Hotel 3 star. Turned out it is actually a Hostel in the middle of ghetto!!!! Demanded refund as i paid 2 extra days what i did not used. It has been denied....
Very bad place and no sign no security, in bad area

Very basic. You get what you pay for. No TV. No hot water (we visited late May so the weather is very hot so the unheated water was fine). No free bottled water. No mini-fridge. The wall sockets can be used by US and EU plugs only. The hotel do have free wifi. The bathroom is just like a built-in closet built inside the room, there is no ceiling, only some wood decor to block out the rest of the whole room, thus no exhaust going outside.
On a better note, the staff (just a single person on the reception at a time) was friendly, helpful and quite hospitable.
Do not be fooled by the chandeliers nor the padded headboard, there is nothing luxurious about this hotel (one of locals said that this is only actually a hostel).
Will we stay again? Yes, because we need only basic accomodation and the price is reasonable. The location is great (right in the middle of Cairo). The hospitality is great.
Good firm beds, excelent staff, plentiful breakfast, good location in walking distance to everything, restaurants, shops, banks,we only have minor inconveniences,a door lock malfunction,Shakin give us another and better room, hot water is good 75% of the time,we really enjoided our stay.
The hotel is situated in an alleyway with no hotel sign, so can be difficult to find. Make sure to to use google maps. Hotel room is clean but had little facilities - the shower has little hot water. The hotel location is a bonus and everything is walking distance - the staff is willing to help. Breakfast is on the 5th floor - you’ll get a hearty meal for the day. Overall it’s an average hotel and I would highly recommend it.
Comfortable value hotel. Beds and baths were fine, and air conditioning was very good. Location is downtown Cairo so traffic noise is expected. Can't say enough about the staff - friendly and helpful at every turn!
The Hotel Velvet 1928 is a delightfully quirky hotel in the heart of downtown Cairo. It has rooms on the first and fifth floors of an old government building built in 1928 (hence its name). As you enter, you wonder what on earth have you gotten yourself into as it is a run down building. However, the space this hotel takes up has a throwback eclectic feel that is fun for those with a sense of adventure. The staff is earnest and bent over backwards trying to please. I was assigned a room on the first floor which, though spacious, was quite noisy. The next 3 nights I was provided with a lovely room on the 5th floor that included a balcony. The bed was extremely comfortable. My breakfasts each morning were hearty, and the staff was always ready to provide suggestions or call an uber or cab if needed. The location of the hotel is perfect for walking to most downtown sites (ten minutes from museum for example). If you love a good adventure, and want an inexpensive hotel near the downtown sites and restaurants, this is a good option. Just be sure to inquire about the fifth floor rooms.

Hotel Velvet 1928 is an “interesting” place to stay if you want the experience of staying in a hotel room that’s on a film set. It looks great on the surface but it feels as though the entire place could be packed into a crate tomorrow. The finishings aren’t perfect but they’re clean and work.
It’s not very well labeled on the outside and most of the rooms are on the 5th. floor. There’s an antique elevator that may or may not be working. This is not a big deal as the staff will happily help you with your bags if you need it.
All this said it’s a bit of a gem in a city as polluted and overcrowded as Cairo.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. I wish them well with this project.
This hotel is in a great location if you want to experience downtown Cairo and don't want to pay the 5-star rates. The staff were super helpful, a pleasure to deal with, and they took care of everything I needed, including a 1am drive back to the airport. I feel like I made a great decision to stay there, because it was a great deal, the people were friendly, and I got to experience the city in a way that I wouldn't have otherwise. Take a walk from here to Tahrir Square and then over the Nile. It's also a short walk to the Egyptian Museum.
We agreed to relocate from Velvet 1928 to Velvet 1915 to experience their newer hotel. It was a good decision because Velvet 1915 location is closer to centre Cairo and the rooms slightly more spacious. However there were 4 power trips in the 3 nights causing blackouts and no water supply for about an hour each time. Very comfortable beds but room floors a bit unclean with dust and hair balls.
