Excellent location for walkers/birders
We enjoyed our stay very much; the staff were soo friendly and helpful. Reception printed off our return boarding passes (TAP have short check-in windows). Restaurant is very good too; room was spacious but bathroom needed central heating; hot water supply little erratic some mornings..... On the plus side, we saw the plans for the modernisation and renovation works to be started in 2014 so are looking forward to the "new look" and extra facilities on our next visit......

In the middle of Nowhere
We had visited the adjoining Rainforest Cafe a couple of years ago and really enjoyed the food so decided to use the hotel this year. It's in a beautifully isolated location, perfect for walkers, nature lovers and besotted couples. Unfortunately despite the prior booking and very low temperatures the heater in our room had not be put on and it took hours to warm up. The staff were working in jumpers and fleeces and the (again) excellent food in the restaurant was served with us huddled beside a mobile gas fire which came in handy to defrost the red wine. The hotel building is showing some signs of damp problems but the friendly staff did their best with Christmas decorations, etc. Yes, we'll go back again but not in winter.

We were very pleased with our room and hotel. We did not have a plug for our washbasin and asked for one twice but never got one. Apart from that we would definitely use the hotel again.

Hotel Pico da Urze Madeira
The hotel was "in the middle of nowhere" and maybe because of the time of our stay (mid. March 2012) shop was not open at all, bar next door was only open during day, no evening program. Pasta at the dinner was overcooked, but breakfast was very good with pancaces and omelets was the guest ordered. The cows wandering free outside the hotel was very amusing, weather was half sunny and half cloudy. Don´t expect lots of temperatures: it was mornings about +2 The location was good for Risco and walking paths No cleaning of the room secong day, don´t know if we should have separately ordered for that.

Friendliest most professional staff I've met!
From the moment we were collected from the airport by the hotel's owner Mr Bras, we were informed that our enjoyment was his priority. He lived up to this promise in every way. A spectacular hotel on top of a mountain surrounded by splendid scenery and walks. Two restaurants in the hotel which both served fantastic well priced meals. The chef (Paulo) in the grill even cooked special vegetarian meals for my partner which allowed me to eat at the grill more often. His skewered Portuguese sausagesa are to die for! The barman (Eduardo) invented the most wonderful cocktails. We have never stayed in a more welcoming hotel and there is not enough space here to review this hotel adequately. An excellent hotel run by an extemely professional team and managed by people who actually care about the 'guest'. Thank you

Gehobener Service. Wandern in alle Richtungen möglich, Ziele an Küste in 10 bis 22 km Entfernung gut erreichbar.

Hotel Pica da Urze, quiet and in the clouds
This was our first visit to Madeira, and we wanted to have a non-tourist experience but with some level of comfort. The hotel is quite out of the way in the middle of the western side of the island. It is not close to the usual urban amenities or the usual tourist traps so did meet our criteria fully. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful with excellent customer service skills. The cafe and restaurant staff was also very sweet and extremely attentive and quick to help, and the food in the restaurant is fresh and cooked to perfection. We have fond memories of a spontaneous evening with some locals and their visiting Venezuelan and Cuban family! A fun time was had by all. I would suggest this hotel for its professional staff, cleanliness, very good kitchen and overall excellent service!

PICO DA URZE MADEIRA
