Cosy country pub
A pleasing place to rest up after driving through the lakes district. I was in bed by 8pm soundly sleeping. There was no noise from the pub below. Comfortable beds.
Really friendly staff and excellent quality food . Stayed here on business and found it a very relaxing evening. Room of a good standard and appreciated the fresh milk left down the corridor in a fridge as well as the chocolate brownie ! My only 2 small gripes are the WiFi isn’t very fast and cooked breakfast wasn’t available till 9 but they are more than happy to leave cereals etc out if you need to be aware earlier. I stayed for the breakfast and found it to be one of the best I have had in a long while ( cooked fresh to order) . In summary top quality food ,very relaxing stay !
Nice place to stay, bar area is nice and relaxing and the rib eye was lovely. Only negative point is breakfast is only served between 9-9.30 which is no good for a business trip
Lovely place, hence returning for a second stay there. Nice rooms, lovely food and great staff. The breakfast times are limited but the staff were more than helpful to sort a breakfast tray for myself one morning with fresh milk in the fridge at the end of the corridor. Will definitely try and stay here again when in the area.
We were returning from a self guided driving tour of Scotland. The rural location of the Golden Fleece was perfect and gave us quick access to the Hadrian's Wall the following day. We were so pleasantly surprised by the caliber of the food in the dining room. Excellent starters and the steaks were perfect. The staff is friendly and the rural location lends for a quiet rest.
I have no idea who owns this place but they are trying to run this establishment on a shoe string so to speak, not enough staff so service all round suffers, this could be a little gold mine but needs new management who understand service is key in this business, food is excellent but service is the foundation to success.
Superb small compact hotel, out of the way so quite tranquil and relaxing.
Very comfortable rooms, on the small side especially the ensuites, but have everything you need and expect.
Restaurant is great with good local food, cooked perfectly and served with local beer.
Nothing much more to say.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Golden Fleece. The service was wonderful right down to the fresh milk and brownies in our room to enjoy after a long day walking Hadrian's wall. The evening meals and breakfast were fantastic. .
Very pleased with everything. I wanted to stay near to Carlisle but didn't want the noise. The hotels location is spot on, rural and peaceful. Rooms were of an excellent standard better than some of the chain hotels I've had to endure in the past. Wish I'd not eaten before I got there as the food looked superb! Good ales available as well. Good peaceful nights sleep without being woken up by drunk guests (chain hotel issue again). Very nice breakfast and helpfull friendly staff. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone and I'll be staying there again.
1st time at this hotel due to normal one being full. Great find. Very nice place, relaxed, comfortable and peaceful. Pleasant staff, very attentive.
Rooms well presented with nice little touches. Restaurant was loverly and the food great.
Will definitely be back.
