Kind of a mixed bag. We booked for 2 nights well in advance, and then decided to arrive a day earlier and added a 3rd night via a separate booking. It didn't work out that very well, as we got a rather tiny room with an external bathroom the first night. We did rectify this the next day after putting in the request to a much nicer and larger room with an attached bathroom. Not all rooms are equally sized so helps to ask. There is an additional €5 per night for parking to contend with, and whilst you can bring your car up to the top of the square to unload, be prepared for about a 5-7min walk downhill to the parking. Castelmola is situated on the very top of the hill so that's par for course.
The views down to Taormina and out to the sea and fantastic, so make sure you get a sea-view room. You won't really meet the staff of the hotel, as all dealings are done with the cafe people out front, who were lovely.
