Country House Hotel
This hotel was very welcoming, the staff remembered my name, the rooms were a good size and the meals offered a decent selection. It all felt like what you expect from a trip to the countryside.

A great place for families tobstay
We had a fantastic time at the hotel. The leisure suite is great and the staff are very helpful. The family rooms are large and well-appointed. The hotel is in need of some sprucing up in places, but that did not detract from our stay at all. A lovely breakfast (although please don’t let the meat touch the cheese!) with friendly staff all over the hotel.

Really large rooms and two bathrooms. Loved the surrounding area and grounds. Staff were polite and helpful. Lovely breakfast. Wouldve liked to have seen better shampoo/shower gel products in swimming pool changing area, also for jaccuzi to be hotter. Wouldve been nice to have fridge in room

Not great to be honest. Room Wasn’t ready for 15:00 check-in. Told it would be 30-40 mins and they would come and tell us. 90 mins later and 3 trips back to reception we got in the room, not good after a 350 mile journey. No instructions on entry to leisure centre, no instructions for breakfast times etc. A/c in “gym” broken along with 2/3rds of the equipment.

The hotel was very traditional, but clean. Staff were so friendly & professional. Room a deluxe family room was very spacious with 2 bedrooms, lovely large modern bathroom. Only negative was at breakfast the hot food was not replenished quickly enough, as there were a lot of items which had run out. The staff were lovely so I am sure that this is something that can be addressed quickly enough.

Sublime parkland setting for a stately place with pillared entrance facing a fine golf course. There are grand period rooms with large illuminated paintings below splendid ceilings. While the hotel is definitely well maintained, some of the grandeur is a bit faded and there's a bit of tacky here and there (like reception). Our stay was great value. We'd a forest wing room with balcony option and it was absolutely fine - spacious and practical. Decor was plain - it's not luxury - but v. comfortable. Great shower pressure, plenty toiletries. Charming view to grounds. Swimming pool is OK, nothing fab but often quiet - that's a bonus. Spa tub ditto. Basic gym area. Breakfast good value - ample cold and hot buffets. Nothing exciting or notably local, etc., although porridge is to order, was nicely done and served quickly. Tea, coffee, toast brought to the table. Dinner was fairly weak. The pale blue dining room is very comfortable and spacious, and menu has a decent choice of individually priced options. A Cullen skink starter was poor, as was a beef main course. The room is lovely but don't over expect on the food front. Afternoon tea not tried. All staff were friendly and the dining room team in particular were young, helpful, kind and v. hospitable. It's a real strength of the place. Housekeeping is obviously good. The Galloway area is absolutely full of places to visit and spaces to explore and enjoy. The Cally Palace is dated but has real strengths and values.

Delightful hotel experience
We had a lovely 3 night stay at the Cally Palace Hotel. We don't play golf but the golf course looked immaculate and very picturesque. The house was built between 1763 and 1765 and the gardens and woods gradually added over the next century. The rooms are very spacious with a big bathroom and 2 comfortable armchairs. The bed was so wide that I couldn't get near my wife! We particularly enjoyed the swimming pool, sauna and jacuzzi - we never saw more than 4 people in there at a time. The food in the restaurant was very good for an evening meal, although we also found good restaurants in Gatehouse of Fleet and Castle Douglas. We were worried about the badly burned toast served to everyone on the first morning and the hard boiled poached eggs but the chefs must have changed for the other two days as their breakfasts were much better apart from some completely inedible scrambled egg on the second day. Staff were always polite and helpful. Overall, we enjoyed our stay so much that we intend to go back for a longer time next year.

Great hotel
4th stay in 24 months. New reception staff not as friendly as Arran and Sarah. Very nice birthday celebration in the restaurant for my mum. Would choose a bedroom in the main hotel rather than the wing
