Staying here makes everything easier. You’re close to everywhere You want to go in Chicago. Shopping, restaurants, tourist sites are all in walking distance. Hotel staff are phenomenal and you are completely safe here. Definitely staying here again on next visit !!!

Nice hotel
Clean and modern. Largest free breakfast we had experienced at a hotel. Everyone was very friendly. Only issue was that in our deluxe room (2 Queen and 1 pullout) was that the 2 queens were pushed up to each other with no space to separate them. It was strange and not expected. Luckily it was just our 4 person family-otherwise that would have been awkward.

I don’t usually submit a negative review but I was a little shocked at the response I received based on my checkout experience. Having been to multiple Riu resorts I have always been highly impressed and satisfied with my experiences. However after finding nail clippings of some kind in the bathroom wash cloth holder I was not impressed. This hotel offered a breakfast with the stay and it was very good. However do not try to take a coffee with you to your room because you will be stopped and escorted back as I was, and there are no takeout cups- there was only one coffee cup in our room. At checkout I told the counter staff about the nail clippings, I got a “thanks”, and immediately ignored. I would have at least appreciated a sorry even Come on Riu, that’s not your standards.

The Riu Plaza was great. My only complaint was that the beds were a bit too high but besides that the location, the hotel itself, the breakfast, were all amazing.

BED BUGS! DO NOT STAY!!!
Checked in on 12/15 with a checkout date of 12/18. Late in the evening on 12/17, after getting up to use the restroom, I was getting back into bed when I noticed something moving. I turned on the light to discover a bed bug. I immediately called the front desk, and they moved us to a new room. They sent someone up to check for bugs, but I had to go down to get my new keys. We were moved from the 22nd floor to the 4th floor, which was a downgrade, but I wasn't too concerned since it was our last night. They said no manager was available that late in the evening. The next morning, I called down and was told that a manager who could handle the situation wouldn't be available until 3 PM. When I called after 3 PM, I was initially told the manager was with a customer and asked if I would hold, to which I agreed. A few minutes later, the person returned to the phone and said the manager would not talk to me because there was nothing they could do, and that I had to email complaints@riu.com, which I had already done after it was mentioned by someone I had spoken with earlier. Today, 12/19, I received an email acknowledging my message, stating that I would hear back within 15-20 business days.

the hotel is very nice the breakfast is quick and easy and good. the rooms are excellent for a downtown hotel good bet and big bathroom. the only flaw would be the evening as there is no resturant and the bar is not great.
