Awkwardly small bed
The room had a very small bed despite it being advertised as a full size. I’m only 5’2 and my feet almost touched the bottom. I can’t imagine sleeping in that bed as a taller person. I stayed during a business trip and my coworkers who booked using hotels.com received smaller beds than those who booked directly with the hotel. We did receive a bottle of wine with the stay while some of my coworkers with bigger beds did not. The wine was nice, but I’m very confused by the really narrow and short bed.

Horrible, Don’t Stay
The hotel did not provide water in the room. Upon asking the bar to actually purchase water I was told that wasn’t possible. Then upon asking the night manager at the front desk I was also lead to zero possibilities! I found out upon check out that there are water stations on each floor, however the hotel does not provide that information upon check in nor do they prodive a vessel to fill the water with. Complete fail. In the bathroom of my room, there was a bottle of hair conditioner in place of the soap dispenser- complete lack of detail. The bar service for a simple cup of coffee in the morning took 20 minutes (on my way to catch an Uber to the airport). Everything about my stay was unacceptable- which is disappointing because I have chosen this hotel over others for decades. Again, complete fail, I will never stay at Hotel Shattuck again.

Great Location and Service
A friend and I stayed there NYE night after attending a performance at Freight & Salvage (1.5 blocks away). Location was perfect. After checking in, the front desk called to ask us if we ‘needed anything’; I asked for robes, and they were delivered in a few minutes. Also great to have a nice restaurant and bar on the premises. Then we literally walked across the street to the BART station-perfect!

There are many choices in Berkeley. The Shattuck has been there forever yet has moved with the times. Modern, excelent bar, sitting areas, food, dining, rooms are large and comfortable, BART is just out front, staff is helpfull and always willing. The chain hotels are there, but The Shattuck is a far superior choice.
