Sadly, the house is newly built, stylish and comfortable, but its teething problems ruined our weekend. It is in the bush and isolated so you need to bring in food and supplies as the stores in the nearest town, Heyfield, shut early. We discovered, to our dismay, that the switch to the induction stove was jammed. We were too scared to force it, in case we would damage it. We contacted the owners but no reply - they were travelling and out of range. We contacted Stayz and all we got was an apology and no action because they couldn’t get on to the owners either. We had brought a delicious seafood pasta sauce but you can’t cook pasta al dente in an oven or in an air fryer or a microwave! We went to bed hungry, cross and tired, making do with a toasted sandwich - great holiday! The next morning more toast for breakfast! My poor 84-year-old mother wondered if that was all she was going to eat for the rest of the weekend. Finally, we heard from the owners and the person to whom they referred us also didn’t answer their phone. I sent a text and he eventually appeared, forced the switch and managed to get the induction stove working. The owners were also very apologetic and offered us a late check out which was of little use to us as we needed to leave early on the Sunday. Perhaps, organising someone on standby who can make themselves readily available, if the owner isn’t, would be a better approach on behalf of the host. A costly and miserable weekend away overall!
