The Bavarian

A weekend getaway to the Black Hills. Always a pleasure to stay here, staff is very friendly and welcoming. Roos are clean and well appointed, outdoor pool is nice and indoor hot tub. Indoor pool looked nice but did not use. Restaurant on site for breakfast and pastries, all excellent. Will be back many times!

I couldn’t believe how inexpensive this place is compared to many of the lodging options in the Black Hills area. After I completed my reservation the day before I went I actually had the thought that maybe I made a mistake because most places at that price range were pretty dumpy looking and worried it would be also. I couldn’t believe it when I pulled in. The property is so nice, well kept, and has such charm. From the moment I drove in I felt like I had been transported to a small village hotel in the Alps. The staff are incredibly nice, very knowledgeable and made me feel extremely welcome. It’s almost like a mini resort with all of the amenities they offer. When I opened the door to my room I felt like I was walking into a posh high end hotel. Very modern, super clean and well taken care of. I conveniently only live four hours away and am already planning another visit on my next extended weekend just to get away. This place is truly a gem!

This place was a pleasant surprise! The rooms are older but well taken care of. The surrounding grounds are beautiful with many blooming flowers. There are several places tuxked away to sit and relax. This is a beautiful hotel and very close to the center of Custer.

Highly recommend

The Barbarian Inn surpassed all my expectations! The staff was welcoming and accommodating right from the moment we checked in. Added bonus of milk and cookies every afternoon was a wonderful touch. The room was clean with all the amenities. Laundry was available. The flowers were amazing all around the property. Enjoyed breakfast at Feel Good Cafe which was a short walk. We will certainly return during our next visit!

It’s like the owners are doing their best with an older, somewhat run down property. I don’t really use amenities at a hotel as I’m out and about, so judge primarily on the room. All staff was very friendly. The room was OK - old but clean enough. The AC unit needed a good vacuum. I did use, and very much appreciated, the free washing facility provided. It was pricey for what it was, but we made the mistake of being there when the Sturgis bike rally was on. I would stay again if the price point was right.
