This historic home has been meticulously restored. It is very comfortable and quiet. Rachel is an amazing hostess and we feel as though we are family and at home when we stay there rather than lodging at a hotel. We have stayed there on several occasions now and it is the only place that we will book in Detroit from here on out. We have stayed at many other locations on The D, this one is the tops by a long shot. The rooms are all amazing and unique. The common areas and other places to relax are all equally amazing. We have absolutely loved every tour and sharing about the restoration of the home. We always look forward to seeing Rachel and sharing conversations with her. This place is special.
My wife and I greatly enjoyed our stay at the Frederick Stearns house. The house was gorgeous, and we loved learning from the owner the history of the home and the work they put in restoring it. The room was quiet, clean and relaxing, and the coffee and fresh baked pastries in the morning were wonderful! Would highly recommend this stay to anyone that appreciates history, along with the comfort of a luxury hotel!
Great property. The bed was very comfortable. I wish they had a full breakfast option instead of tea or coffee. I thought this was going too be like a bed and breakfast Inn.
Beautifully restored home near to Indian Village. Perfect for relaxing, room was very comfortable. This would be a great location for a party, wedding, or family reunion. Lots of open spaces for gatherings or meetings.

Liked: Property conditions & facilities
Disliked: Room comfort
Nice facility, terrible neighborhood
The building is beautiful and the host and hostess very kind and pleasant. However, the building is on as busy street and very noisy. It was telling that there are white noise generators in each room. We were moved from our original rooom, the most expensive, to another not facing the street. The second night was worse, with a neighbor playing loud music until 1:30 in the morning. I sleep with earplugs and they could not keep out the noise. We left six hours later. I would never return.
This is one of my best travel experiences. I’ve recommended this as a to-go hotel to my friends with travel plans to Detroit.
The owner renovated the historic house with every single design and furniture reflecting the 19th century originals. Frederick Stearns’ story as a pharmaceutical entrepreneur is also inspiring. This whole history and story and the architecture turn the hotel into a museum. I personally could spend days just sitting there imagining myself living in the 19th.
Detroit is a great city with splendid history in business and culture. I’m thankful to Rachel for keeping the essence.
Reserved parking right next to the house.
Delicious breakfast.
My wife and I and another couple spent two nights at the Frederic Stearns House and found it to be excellent. Spacious, clean rooms and an inviting ambiance. The historic nature of the Home added to a wonderful experience. Our host, Rachel, was gracious, most helpful, and we loved her cookies. If there is a higher rating than 5 stars, Rachel and the Frederic Stearns House deserve it. Highly recommended.

We were greeted by Rachel who has renovated, and owns this beautiful historical property. She is lovely:) she greeted us like we were family. The Inn is quiet and in a really pretty part of town. We were there to see a concert downtown, and it was an easy 10 minute Uber. The bed was so comfy, the room bigger than my first apartment. Well appointed. A must stay and a must see if in Detroit!
I would love to give this beautiful Inn a five star rating. Filled with amazing architecture and paintings it is a treasure to behold. Unfortunately circumstances require me to address some issues. After several attempts to fix the TV it never had audio. The bath cold faucet did not work. Most important there is no one available to help after 8p.m. We were given the door code for entry after hours. However we did not catch all of if it and upon return from a concert we were unable to get in. I texted and called the number given to me for help and did not receive any reply. It was only pure luck that another guest arrived after us and let us in. If they can address the lack of customer service it is 5 star.
The Stearns is an incredibly unique stay.
It’s a classic Tudor mansion that operates as much lore of a quaint Old English Inn that a hotel, so go in with that and you will love it.
Somewhat between downtown and Gross Pointe. Across from the UAW, so perfect if you are going there for UAW work.
This unique property is a historic renovation of a turn of the century mansion to hotel rooms, which is beautifully done with spacious and interesting rooms. The staff/owners customer service are very proud of the property and treated me more like a house guest than a hotel visitor and went above and beyond. Best service I’ve ever had.
