We arrived after our overnight flight from the US and asked about checking in early. The staff was very helpful and, for a nominal fee, let us check at 0800 for a quick shower and nap. The breakfast was great with the choices on the menu plus a serve yourself area with fruit, yogurts, pastries, and breads. The hotel is centrally located and about a 10 minutes or less walk to Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile.

I’m not sure why Google lists this hotel as 4 star because it is most definitely not. Even for European standards. The hotel room we were in was very outdated; the bathroom SINK was knee length. I am 5’6” tall so I’m not sure if this room was for disabled. Nothing else makes sense. The bathroom door didn’t close all the way so you’re left with a large gap and things were getting awkward since I shared the room with a family member. I asked for another room or for maintenance to fix the door and of course they were “booked out” and maintenance left for the day. There’s no room service. Limited TV channels. Not sure what makes this an 4-star hotel. Overall, not a great hotel but location is superb! Next time I’m in the area, I’d look at other options as the prices are the same for this area.

The location was perfect, and having parking onsite was a great plus. The room was big enough for 3 (with sofa bed open) and the bathroom was large and well equipped. Staff was lovely as well. Highly recommend.

2 night stay as a couple at the Apex City.

We arrived early & were able to leave our bags so we didn’t need to keep them with us. We returned later in the afternoon to check in. The reception was quite busy & 2 members of staff were serving customers. The third was just busy at her computer. After a few minutes I was called over & she apologised for the wait, said she had struggled to get logged on. Check in was easy & quick. Hot our room let’s & 2 vouchers for a free drink - but you need to walk down to the Apex Grassmarket to use them a few doors down. We went to our room & we are unsure if something had been mistakenly left in the room as there was a plugged in machine that was on making a loud noise. It had options for ionising air so unsure if it was to replace the ac? However it was not pleasant and made it difficult to breathe, so we unplugged it & opened windows to air the place out. The room was ok other than this. Nice view of the castle. We were out each day so didn’t spend much time there other than 2 sleep. It had tea / coffee making facilities, but 1 pack of 2 biscuits much to my husbands dismay. Breakfast was downstairs and met with friendly staff who took our order for the hot meal - continental stuff was buffet style. The first morning we sat on the raised area & it was chilly with a draft from the ac, second morning we were at the bottom & it was fine. We’ve stayed at both Apex hotels on the grassmarket, great location - however I’d chose the grassmarket over the city as the restaurant is much nicer!

This hotel is in a great location and is walkable to most of the old city attractions, restaurants and pubs. The beds were very comfortable and the showers were good and hot.

A lovely modern hotel in a nice location. We stayed in both Apex hotels (city and grasslands) the bathroom was more modern in the city hotel but the restaurant was slightly better for breakfast in grasslands. You can use the restaurant for dinner in Grasslands which we did and was very nice. Refreshments in the room were stocked and given lots of choice. Overall a very nice stay in a lovely city.
