This Edinburgh area holiday house was newbuilt as new self contained wing of Rathan House (1852). Set in the leafy upmarket Eskbank conservation area , it has 2 french windows from the lounge to a shared croquet lawn and quiet south facing walled garden.
Off street parking. 2 very good restaurants and a pleasant pub within 200 metres.

Excellent Edinburgh park and ride retreat with buses every 10 mins and trains every half hour to central Edinburgh. Edinburgh , the Lothians and the Borders have too many visitor attractions to cite all, the owners can help design bespoke daytrips - Eg Hogwarts Alnwick , Holy Isle and Hadrians Wall ; Traquair, Bowhill and Abbotsford; North Berwick Seabird center beeches and Museum of Flight.

Edinburgh speaks for itself but note that this Dalkeith vacation rental is 5 kilometres from Roslin Chapel., 1km from the Butterfly farm and Dobbies ..& 800 metres from Dalkeith Palace.

Delightful Dalkeith Domicile
The guest house was exceptionally comfortable and well suited for my stay of 7 days (and would have been well suited for any length of time). The kitchen had everything I would have hoped for as far as being able to prepare my own meals. Dalkeith and environs have lovely parks and I thoroughly enjoyed the discoveries I made of wooded walks and history. I wondered if I would regret not renting a car. In fact, I was easily able to get everywhere I wanted by foot, bus, or train. A comfortable double-decker bus to Edinburgh is literally 2 minutes from the property. I gladly spent time at The Fringe festival in Edinburgh and at the Dalkeith retreat. The hosts are lovely people and made excellent suggestions for activities in Edinburgh and in the towns surrounding Dalkeith. I hope to return someday to stay once more at this wonderful place.

Truly delightful!
What a great place for our family! Beautiful garden (complete with 2 sweet dogs) that offered a very pleasant respite after a day of sightseeing. The accommodations were perfect with ample space and comfort. The location was ideal for bus service to the city center, Rosslyn Chapel, and the beach. And, a good grocery with easy walking distance. Irene's place was perfect for my Aunt and I. We enjoy the comforts of a home when we travel and that's exactly what we got at Irene's. Plus the bus was just outside the door making the trips into Edinburgh so easy. The walk to downtown Dalkeith and restaurants was less than 10 minutes. The hosts were very helpful in directing us into their place with the unintended late arrival and in arranging a taxi for our trip to the airport. I only regret that I didn't have time to enjoy the beautiful garden. If you want all the amenities, plenty of space, easy access, parking, beautiful surroundings all at a great value this is the place to stay.

Wanted a few days to relax prior to a 10 day tour of Scotland. The Holiday house was perfect for two couples. Fantastic communication with owners and comfortable home. We had so much fun in Scotland. Our host lived on the property and so was there to answer questions, let us in and was there if we had any questions. We met our hosts several times out in the garden as we were unwinding from our day. The site was very close to the train station, there were several stores to get groceries and we were very close to Roslin Chapel. We also drove to Stirling one day. Our rooms were comfortable and we each had our own shower. Plenty of room for the three in our party. Thank you so much for all your help. Our hosts were good communicators and they even called me before we left to speak with us about our trip. You can trust this one with your stay.

Nice clean property close to Edinburgh
Had a great stay at Eskbank - very clean property that has an amazing kitchen for cooking. The property is very close to the town of Dalkeith, which has great food options and many great places to walk a dog. The house is within steps of a bus stop that will take you into the city center relatively quickly. The hosts were wonderful at offering ideas on places to sight see. Highly recommended if you want to stay a bit outside of the city.

A Place to Call Our Scottish Home Away from Our Canadian Home
My husband and I, along with my elderly Scottish mother were fortunate to be guests at the self catering 2 bedroom annexe unit at the Rathan Guesthouse during our three month visit to Scotland, spanning over Christmas and New Year. This beautiful, charming home was a prime location for us, within close proximity to our family and friends. Together with the hospitable and friendly hosts, Ewan & Irene, the Rathan House and property offers a great central location, secure parking, gated access to the annexed unit, a beautifully landscaped back garden, with clotheslines, and Flora, their friendly family dog. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, utensils, & cookware. The location is also excellent for easy access to parks, buses, shopping, restaurants and pubs, all within walking distance. Everything one could ask for, especially for an extended stay. Our hosts, Ewan and Irene were most welcoming to us upon arrival, providing a full tour of the property inside and out, and expectations needed for a 3 month stay. Both our hosts were so friendly and accommodating to us throughout our stay. My son and his partner made an unplanned visit from Canada during our stay, and they were wonderfully accommodated with a room in the B&B Guesthouse. Ewan is very knowledgeable about the area, and gave us recommendations on nearby places of interest to visit. He kept us entertained with his many historical facts and adventure stories. Irene checked in with us regularly to ensure we were comfortable, warm and had everything we needed. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and meeting our gracious hosts. We are looking forward to our next visit. Thank you Ewan and Irene, we are pleased to have met you both and we appreciate you hosting us in your beautiful home.

Perfect for exploring Edinburgh
We enjoyed staying in the lovely spacious annexe adjoining the host’s house. With a bus stop outside the door (almost) we left the car behind and bussed into Edinburgh everyday. Although only a short visit for us, we would highly recommend this lovely accommodation for anyone wishing to visit the area. The MacRaes were very accommodating. The location was very close to Edinburgh by bus. We were able to experience life outside of the busy city. The vrbo was clean and the MacRaes were able to give good recommendations and helped us figure out the public transportation. The view from the vrbo was beautiful looking out among the country side. Wonderful Place to Stay
This residence is just great. It's a wing attached to the home of Ewen and Irene who own and operate this place. It's completely self contained with a fully equipped kitchen, living room and two spacious bedrooms. The living room opens up to a lovely backyard. The amazing thing is all the bathrooms. Each bedroom has its own ensuite bathroom with shower. Then, also on the second floor, there is another bathroom with a toilet and bidet. On the first floor, there is another full bathroom with shower! This residence is about a thirty minute bus ride into downtown Edinburgh, and the buses come quite frequently - about one every ten minutes. Less than a 5 minute walk away, you have a large Morrison's grocery store where you can get everthing you need. You can also get take away pizza, Chinese Food, and fish and chips at restaurants in the town of Dalkeith, all within walking distance. Overall, a great experience. Ewen and Irene are helpful and responsive when needed, but leave you to do your own thing.
