My overall stay at this property was fair but I will not be returning. When I arrived at the hotel, I realized that part of my family was staying at the Guanacaste property, and they wanted to stay with the rest of our family at the Palace property. Thannya (identified as a Supervisor) was working at the front desk and told me all we would have to do is cancel our reservation at Guanacaste and she would provide an equivalent room at Palace. Once we returned after canceling our other reservation at Guanacaste, she told us that we would also need to pay a large additional cost to do the transfer. The fact that this information was not provided to us prior to canceling our original reservation is wildly unprofessional. When I told my concerns to Thannya she was extremely rude and told me that “I was wasting her time”. Additionally, the new room at Palace was disgusting - it was not cleaned properly, there was mold and the refrigerator did not work (I have photos). This was unsettling because my mother is elderly, has diabetes and needed to refrigerate her insulin. Even though I will not be returning to RIU resorts in the future, there were a few staff members that were actually very helpful and provided great customer service throughout our stay and I would like to acknowledge them: Maury (bellman), Sharon (front desk), Elmer (front desk), Alonso (cook) and Warren (pool bartender).

I looooved that the staff were friendly, helpful, and seemed genuinely happy to assist! They made my vacation much more pleasant and stress free. I also appreciated the food! There were so many options, we didn’t get to try everything. The only complaint was the energy of the female entertainers. They didn’t seem that happy to be there, and the performances were very low energy. The males did a great job!

The Hotel looks like a 5-star hotel in the photo; but it is not, I would say that it is a 3 star hotel. It does not have the luxury of a hotel of higher category than 3-star hotels. The most uncomfortable thing is that they tell you that they have 4 restaurants for dinner; but they don't tell you that they are restaurants only for 50 people; Then you have to queue from 5:30 to be put on a list. The first 100 are the ones who dine (In a hotel with a capacity of 800 guests ??). Despite that the food was good. The Hotel was clean; but it is not properly maintained, The children's slide park looks like a 15-year-old park, some chairs were broken and some tables too.

Never received my $600 credit for the property, terrible bedding, most inconvenient dinning system by they won’t take reservations for restaurants they push you to eat at the buffet.

If you enjoy eating and drinking a lot this place is perfect because there is an abundance of it. Now if you enjoy comfort and outstanding service, this is definitely NOT the place!!! Rooms are mediocre and they have a horrible humid smell, beds are super small and NOT comfortable at all. There is a horrendous smell from sewer pipes. Smell fill up the the room every time toilet is flushed.The facility is big and not easy to navigate as they don't have enough signage to guide you. They do not have a briefing upon arrival and guests are constantly playing the guessing game and often wandering hoping to find a staff person to guide them. Pool area closes super early at 6pm, and if you are there during the very hot months, 6pm is when weather is just starting to cool off and you are starting to enjoy being in the water. The sales person, Daniel, at the podium near pool area selling the local tours is super rude and does not provide you with important information regarding the tours. Getting info from him was like pulling teeth! Maintenance and housekeeping staff were courteous, we got to know some of them because we had to call numerous times due to technical difficulties. If you have to call maintenance expect them to use telephone in the room because once in the room supervisor will track them down to give them orders for next room being serviced, so worker will stand by your bed and use the phone and calls are not quick. Not sure why because they all have walkie talkies!!

I dont who rated this hotel 5 star but quality and rooms are not at all 5 star looking. My room bathroom lights did not work, I complain to front desk but they did not bother to replace the bulbs until i checkout
