sound of music traapp family original house
they charged me for additional night (4Th) despite my booking for 3 nights. requested refund as i am travelling europe and short on funds on card.
Great hotel, very accommodating staff. Great, informative, helpful manager. Wonderful breakfast, very clean spacious rooms. Highly recommend this wonderful quaint historical bed & breakfast!! Five star rating!
The hotel is the actual family Von trapp villa. We did not know this until we walked inside. The villa is about a 10-15 minute cab ride to downtown or to an attraction like the castle. Walking would take awhile. We had a car but left it at the villa because parking is difficult downtown Salzburg.
The outside of the home is very impressive. It is surrounded by a huge white wall. The home is huge and the lawn is very well manicured. Inside the house is a ton of old Von trapp treasures to include their original benches.
We stayed in the daughter Maria's room. It was a typical 'room' with a high ceiling. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was a little small but not uncomfortable. You have to take into account this a joke from 1920. Although the place was modernized it is still old so rooms aren't huge. The owner was the receptionist and very helpful. Every am they called us a cab. The place was so amazing and a must for any sound of music fan.
We didn't realize this was the actual home of the Von trapps until we pulled in. The home itself is amazing and very well decorated. There are Von trapp family artifacts everywhere and it is very cool. The rooms are well done and we stayed in Maria the daughters room. The bathroom is a bit dated but that is the appeal of the place. The bed was very comfortable. The owners were the ones working the desk and were very delightful.
Staying at the Villa Trapp is definitely something for any Sound of Music lover and it's a great opportunity to learn about the actual Von Trapp history. We had a little bit of a negative first impression when we tried to call the property ahead of time to inquire about late check in. I left a message when it wasn't their office hours and then called again during office hours and no one picked up. We ended up cutting our plans in town short so we could make sure to check in in the 3p-7p window. I will say it's really inconvenient to stay here unless you have a car or are prepared to pay for a cab regularly. Christopher was great at helping us call a cab and schedule one ahead of time for us and our early train. We stayed in the Sound of Music room and it was beautiful, but I admit I was afraid of bathing in the claw foot tub because every time I got in, I feared it would collapse under my weight. It's an old house so the piping is old too so everything took awhile to drain...there's definitely no rushing here. Overall we had a good time and were thrilled to learn some more about the real Von Trapp family.
Because they were booked up, I stayed in the smallest cheapest room here, and found it charming! The sound of rain in the pines outside the huge windows, the comfy bed and pillows, and the inviting couches in the salon, all made the rain somehow romantic...an easy walk to trains and bus, but a getaway feeling. There was an opera singer staying there, and her impromptu Sound of Music on the staircase, echoed thru the halls like a welcome spirit...
To start, we were upgraded to Maria's Suite upon arrival. The suite was beautiful, and was adorned with photos and items from the Von Trapp Family. Informational placards around the house helped give light into how the family really lived, a great experience for any Sound of Music fan. The accomodations were fantastic, the staff very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was delicious.
A must stay for the Sound of Music fan with a car. There is free parking and free wifi (which was slow). We were upgraded to the Sound of Music Suite. A huge room with lovely garden views. There is no air conditioning in the house, but they gave us a fan to use. Lots of character (creaky floors) and Trapp family photos on the walls.
I don't remember what room we booked, but we were upgraded to Maria's Suite. Let me just say - loved it! It was so huge and roomy in the sitting room and the bedroom. The grounds are peaceful and picturesque. My daughter and I also loved the breakfast the next morning. I hated to leave Salzburg, and I really hated to leave this hotel.
We enjoyed our stay at the Villa Trapp, the building and the surrounding land are like a scene from a movie. We were able to take the S3 local train into Salzburg HBF day, the train is half hourly, but no issue. We visited the Raschhofer's Rossbrau which was an easy 20 minute walk for a great pub meal. Salzburg itself has a lot on offer toio, with beautiful scenery and history along with the sites from the Sound of Music movie!
To stay in the former Von Trapp family home in Salzburg was a wonderful experience. The house is charming and you feel as if the family could walk in at any time. Family photos of the Von Trapps are scattered over the house and the family member whose room it once belonged to is described by a photo and brief biography outside the room. The setting is lovely as well. For Sound of Music fans this is a must. We found the rooms clean and comfortable. Staff was
friendly and helpful. The Villa is a little difficult to find, so I would advise using a GPS or taking a taxi.
For everyone else, this is a nice, clean, standard B&B. But, for fans of the Sound of Music, please do not miss this one! It is out of town and not near any restaurants, etc. But, it's got history and Trapp family memorabilia galore. My room was nice, quaint and very similar to other B&B rooms. But, again, I didn't stay here for the bed quality. I stayed here because of the lore of the von Trapps.
We enjoyed ourselves so much and would stay there again. Being sound of music fans this was quite the experience of a life time. The house has history and your living in it. We also met some other travelers that now will be life time friends. The breakfast brunch was awesome too. The room was clean, they had free parking and great customer service..
Villa Trapp is just outside of the city, in the suburbs. The neighborhood has grown up around the house. But once inside the gate it is a pretty home, with lots of history. Rooms are nice. Ours had its own bathroom. Breakfast was good, like a bed and breakfast but the breakfast is not included in the price. If arriving after 7pm, let the office know and they leave a key and your room info in an envelope on the front door.
Whilst the Villa Trap is a little outside Salzburg (15 minute bus journey), we had such a lovely time staying at the original Von Trapp family home! Michael greeted us when we arrived and explained in detail about the home and the things to do in Salzburg. We stayed in Martina's room which was small and a little dark but was perfect for the little time we spent in it. Breakfast is additional but worth it to do it once - all in all we'd recommend the a Villa Trap but may not be ideal for everyone given its a bus journey into the town.
We were so excited to stay where the VonTrapp family grew up. We loved the beautiful home, the nostalgic pieces/photos and the friendliness of the staff. The room was clean, comfortable and relaxing. We regret we weren't able to take part in the beautiful breakfast offered as both mornings we had early plans. We hope to stay here again!!
What a nice place to stay in Austria! Not only is it well decorated and comfortable, but there is so much history attached to it! The breakfast was 11 Euros, but delicious and well worth it. We loved sitting out on the little tables out back to eat. I was glad we had a car as you are a little out of the way, but that is to be expected as this is a residential home. Definitely recommend this place for a stay in Salzburg!
We stayed at the Villa Trapp for two nights and were very pleasantly surprised. The reviews we had read were not glowing and we were not sure what to expect. It was a beautiful home made into a B and B. We were thrilled with the size of our room and how pristine the bathroom was. If you rent a car, staying here is ideal because it is not close to any restaurants or other attractions. Highly recommend the Villa Trapp.

Small room.
There was nothing wrong with the hotel however it was to faraway from Town for my liking. You would need a car. Stay here Only if to are a True Sound of Music fan other wise stay in Town.
