Good value, near the main train station. This hotel has rooms overlooking the tracks leading into and from the station (with a sound proof window, it must be pointed out). If you'd like you can see (but not hear) lovely trains going by all evening, including some historic ones. Efficient and clean rooms, helpful staff.

Hotel is clean. Efficient check in. They even gave us beauty care products like face masks and moisturizers. Room is tight but it is to be expected. There is no closet space. The washroom is spacious and really nice. Main qualms about this hotel is that the location is a bit far from the Hakata station. There's not much happening in the vicinity of the hotel. The other major thing is the noise from the trains. This is not the hotel for you if you are a light sleeper.

Good location. Truly near Hakata Station (over at OIOI / Kitte Mall entrance), just a very short walk. But, hotel is near railway tracks, could affect light sleepers.

The hotel is located in a quiet area and within walking distance from the Hakata station where you can take the MRT and JR trains. The bus terminal isn't too far away as well. Tons of shopping places and great eating places, oh and if you love Daiso, there's one on top of the bus terminal on level 8. The room was on the small side, but is always immaculately cleaned. For late night snacks or emergency supplies, there are at least 3 convenience stores within walking distance.

Service needs to be better
We enjoyed our first stay in Shizutetsu so much that we cancelled a different hotel booking and returned to Shizutetsu on our return from a trip to Beppu. Location is less than 10 minutes from Hakata Station, hotel is very new, clean and staff were courteous. Room is small but very pleasant and had all amenities. It should be noted that rooms face the train tracks. However, two things happened that can be improved. First, we were an hour early when we checked in at 2 p.m. While we were waiting in the lobby, there was a sudden strong stink of excretion. The hotel staff said it was due to some pipes. We requested for a room immediately but were told we have to wait, even though by then it was 2:40 pm, just 20 minutes to go before the official check in time. In the end, we went out for a walk and drink. The second thing that happened was we requested for a taxi to the airport the night before departure. At midnight, a staff told us she couldn't get a taxi for 5:30 a.m. We told her to please keep trying. We have never encountered a situation where hotel staff couldn't get us a taxi. At 5:02 a.m., we were woken by a call that the taxi would be waiting for us at 5:10 a.m! We rushed to get ready and got to the taxi at 5:15 a.m. 8 minutes to get ready?? There’s brushing of teeth, changing, checking out, last minute packing...it was just so unreasonable!

Great bathroom. Separate toilet, basin and Japanese bath with small chair to sit on when soaping. Toilet washlet had additional cleaning after flushing so you could see that the sprayer was clean. Breakfast was great—good bread and service. Miso soup was not too strong but tasty and with lots of vegetables. Good coffee available in lobby. I would definitely stay here again.

Fantastic choice
Just a few minutes walk from JR station. Room is surprisingly spacious, with separate toilet and shower (onsen style washing area and tub). Great breakfast with many local dishes and ingredients. Price was reasonable. Will definitely book again.
