Great location, ten minutes down to the centre of Funchal (a bit hard to walk back up, it really is steap uphill). A quiet street, a big garden and wineyard, a beautiful view, several big sitting rooms (with TV here, not in the room), a nice breakfast room. The bedroom was spacious and nicely furnished. The bathroom was a bit oldfashioned, but charming. Just a few rooms, so nice and quiet. We felt as if we had travelled back in time.
The gate is narrow and a bit difficult to drive through. The staff is on site only part of the day, so if you arrive after 1 pm, you have to give due notice. We did, and still noone was there to meet us. We had to call hotels.com to get in touch with one of the staff, to get in. The envelope with our keys was made out to another guest, and the recipt we got wasn’t to us, so a bit of confusion there. Otherwise the staff was very nice and helpful.
Nice, simple breakfast with delicious homemade jam and pastel de nata. Bread, nice cheese, ham, fruit, some cereals, te, coffee and freshly made orange juice.
There are a cat and one or two dogs here.
