I agonized over this review. The yurt was very nearly perfect but since I work in hospitality I am slightly nitpicky.
First of all, the excellent: This place has CHARACTER. Charming, bohemian, relaxing. If you are coming to watch the cranes you could not ask for a more convenient spot. I was lucky enough to have them roost in the adjacent field one day, a day that was warm enough to just sit out on the deck and observe. (Observation...they didn't do much.)
The yurt is well furnished with everything you could need for a stay. Seriously...it even has a yoga mat. And a hula hoop. The kitchen is tiny but adorable and well stocked. The bed? I have never slept better in a strange bed. There's a range of seating options.
Nitpicky reasons why I knocked off one star:
Bathroom sink did not work. Could I work around it? Yes. Should I have had to? No. If you are renting to the public you have an obligation, that's just the nature of hospitality. I understand a booked season, but you make it work. In the hotel business that means taking rooms out of service. If I am renting a condo/house/yurt that says it has a bathroom sink, there needs to be a sink.
Second reason is minor. This was, in addition to the cranes, a reading vacation for me. And the yurt is not well lit enough for comfortable nighttime reading. Had this been prior to the time change I would have been extremely disappointed. In the daytime there is plenty of light from the top skylight. After dark...the light at the top is not bright enough for reading. There are some lamps along the walls, but not bright enough for sustained reading. The two lights that look like they would be positioned well for reading are solar and do not work in the winter when window flaps aren't open. Disappointing, but if you are forewarned this is manageable by bringing your own clip on book light which is why I take the time to mention it.
I would still happily recommend this property with the caveat of making sure everything is functioning.
(Also, hot water lasts about 1 minute. This fits with my impression of an eco yurt and I have experienced worse. I am also willing to consider this might be user error and I just missed something. But ask, if you consider it vital.)
