Gloucester 36 offers everything you would want for your Hilton Head vacation: a great location, incredible amenities, superb decoration, and plenty of space and privacy, perfect for a family getaway. This ground floor retreat has everything you and your guests could need on the main and only level of the house. Upon entering, you'll notice high-end furniture and finishes and plenty of light. To your right, you'll find a bedroom/studio equipped with a twin daybed with a trundle, a well-equipped desk, and a small flatscreen TV on a stand. Right off the studio is the laundry room with a private washer/dryer, a sink, cleaning supplies, and an Avalon water dispenser. Then, you'll come across the fully-equipped kitchen–a cook's paradise. It's spacious enough to move around freely while cooking and comes equipped with plenty of counter space, modern appliances that include a double-door, full-size fridge, stove, dishwasher, coffee maker, blender, toaster, double oven, electric oven, mixer, utensil, wine fridge, mini-fridge, and even a small flatscreen TV on the counter! The kitchen island seats three and the dining table right off the kitchen has space for up to six people.

As you leave the kitchen, your jaw will drop at the sight of the spacious living room area, which is actually separated into two smaller areas. The media area is made up of a large, wall-mounted flatscreen TV surrounded by four recliners (one is a double), a desk, a DVD player, a gaming console with games included, a record player, and a ceiling fan. The other part of the living area is the perfect place to unwind–here you'll find plenty of seating such as two chairs and a high table, a chaise lounge, a sofa with a footstool, two armchairs, and a two-person sofa. There are plenty of magazines throughout the home, so don't hesitate to grab one of them, snuggle up on the couch, and get lost in them. A quaint see-through room divider will take you to the main dining room featuring high-end touches, a large dining table with space for up to eight dinner guests, a convenient wine cooler, and a wine rack.

The screened porch is a great place to relax if you're looking for some seclusion from the group–wall-to-wall windows allow views of the marvelous backyard, giant trees, deck, and pool area. The inviting sectional sofa and wall-mounted flatscreen TV create the perfect spot for a relaxing afternoon. Air conditioning and one ceiling fan in each room will be ideal for warm days and to stay away from the heat. This dog-friendly retreat offers five bedrooms and three full bathrooms. The main bedroom has a king bed, ceiling fan, a wall-mounted flatscreen TV, drawers, a large closet, and a chaise lounge. Off the main bedroom is an ensuite bathroom with exquisite decor, a two-person vanity, a walk-in tiled shower, a makeup vanity, a towel heater, and yes, a wall-mounted flatscreen TV. Bedroom number two has a queen bed, a closet, a ceiling fan, and a flatscreen TV on top of a drawer. Bedroom number three has a queen bed as well, a large wall-mounted TV and mirror, a closet, a ceiling fan, and a folding ottoman. And last, but not least, bedroom number four has a queen bed, a ceiling fan, a small sofa at the foot of a bed, and a flatscreen on top of a drawer. One full bathroom features a double vanity and a walk-in shower, while the other has a one-person vanity and a walk-in shower.

Outside is all about entertaining with a partially covered patio with two ceiling fans and a seating area with a two-person sofa and four outdoor chairs, a private outdoor pool with pool toys for the children and kids at heart, a pool area with a poolside bar with a flatscreen TV and four stools, six lounge chairs, one seating area near the bar with a sofa and two cushioned lounge chairs, a private gas grill, a deck with an outdoor dining area for six people, and another seating area near the pool with three chairs, a table, and a lounge chair. The front porch offers another great relaxation spot with a ceiling fan, a swing, and a convenient basketball hoop.

No longer worth the price
This was the 2nd year we stayed at this house. I hesitated to rent it again, because the price increased quite a bit from last year, but I went through with it because my family really enjoyed the location and the private pool in the back yard. The kitchen is well stocked, but if you plan to do any food prep, take your own knives. There are plenty of them there, but they are all very dull. The beds are comfortable, but many of the pillows and bed coverings are badly stained and in need of replacement. You will need to buy ice because the ice dispenser in the fridge is always jammed. There are also several burnt out lights in the living area that I was told would be replaced, but that never happened during my 3-week stay. I won’t be staying here in the future because the price once again increased significantly, and the accommodations and lack of attention to basic repairs and amenities no longer make it worth my consideration.

Almost perfect
The house easily accommodated our group of 9. Overall, we were comfortable and had a wonderful family vacation. But the kitchen dishware and cookware are old and in some cases were put away dirty. The outdoor furniture needs some serious updating and/or cleaning. The location is great and very close to the beach (with free parking) and restaurants.

Great House
We stayed at this house with our adult children and our friends. It was a great set up with tons of space. The location was perfect about 1 mile to the beach. The house I will say does not come with much in the way of "starter" toiletries for the amount of people. We had 10 people and there was barely enough supplies to get through 1 day. They said they supply based on the amount of people. Also things like extra pillows but no pillow cases, bedspreads but no blankets on any beds. With the air on it was cold and several of us had no blankets. I did contact the management. We did get the some pillow cases but they told us that is up to the owner of the house to supply those things. I mean every bed should have a blanket. Other than that the house was a good find and we would stay there again.

On balance, great place for a mid-sized family get together (8 adults, one infant)
POSITIVES: great location, quiet neighborhood, great access to path system, beach, and nearby shopping. Wonderful pool and pool area with unrealized potential. Phenomenal wildlife viewing. Kitchen was beautiful and over-the-top well-equipped - including the high-end appliances. All three bath/shower areas beautifully redone in tasteful tile and glass-enclosed. Screened in porch was a much-used delight. Huge great room with potential. Large master suite (including mattress) fantastic. Other bedrooms surprisingly small but functional (but see challenges, below). Hanging swings, overlooking pool, a book-reading or grandchild-observing heaven. Good selection of pool toys and games (adult and toddler). The open front porch provided a great place to store bikes out of the rain, and the driveway easily accommodated our three vehicles. Pool service (2x during week) was more than adequate. Property manager very responsive. CHALLENGES: Pool bar 'nice' but could use some organizational and functional TLC (inside & behind), and an update. Half the pool deck furniture appears 15+ years old and should be replaced for practical and safety purposes, as should cushions. "5th" bedroom off entry hall - is not. Shaky trundle and repository for leftover furniture - could (should) be cleaned out and upgraded with actual queen or king-size bed. Furniture throughout is a bit 'eclectic' (Med dark wood?) - mostly functional but somewhat worn. One bedroom had no lamps & just the bright, overhead fan light. Living space also could have used a few more lamps to assist otherwise wonderful, natural high-ceiling lighting. SUMMARY: We very much enjoyed our stay but think a little, additional investment in this beautiful space would easily make it a five star winner.

Best Hilton Head Trip Ever!
Overall this house was great. We really enjoyed ourselves, especially the back yard. The porch swings, pool and numerous places to sit out in the fenced backyard were wonderful. The beds were comfy, and so was the furniture throughout the house. The neighborhood was also wonderful for walking the dogs, and we all got to see the barred owls on more than one occasion. We were there when the trees were dropping their seeds, and the stuff really accumulated around the patio and porches, but both the pool and landscape were tended to frequently. Negative comments: it would be nice if instructions were provided for the tv in the living room. We aren’t that techy, so that was frustrating for us. The Wi-Fi was terrible. The only place it worked well was in the main living area, and that seemed to be sporadic. If you tried to use a device in the bedrooms or screened porch, you were out of luck. In addition, the microwave and oven were Wi-Fi dependent, and there were times when we couldn’t use them because the Wi-Fi happened to be down. The water pressure in the master bathroom was pretty good, but it was just a trickle in the other two bathrooms. This made showering a challenge, especially for washing longer hair. And we had issues with the ice maker in the fridge. It indicated that the filter needed to be changed. We brought it to the attention of the management company, but it was never replaced during the 3 weeks we were there. The tiki bar was a nice touch in the back yard, but the faucet for the sink didn’t work. I would definitely stay here again, we didn’t travel to Hilton Head to sit in the house and stare at our devices, but it’s nice when you need to use them to be able to do so. It was a expensive place to stay, so that’s why I’ve listed the negatives. Overall, we had an amazing visit, and this house and location in Shipyard were the reason.

Great location. Close to Everthing
The House itself was great. Communication with Vacasa was not good. I emailed them more than once before arrival and it took close to a week to get a reply. We needed some extra blankets and found some in the closets and they were smelly and dirty and I needed to wash them before we could use them. This is why I gave 3 stars for cleanliness. The check in process was great and the office is close to the house. This was our first time dealing with Vacasa and I’m not sure why they were so slow to respond to my questions before arrival but it was very frustrating.

Pool was awesome
The house was spacious and well-suited for our six adults and three toddlers. We loved the pool and the patio area. The location was very convenient and the backyard backed up to a golf course and was very private. We rented bikes for the week and enjoyed biking to the beach, shopping, playground etc. Loved the bike pass at HH. The kitchen had lots of dishes and cooking items but it had no pantry items like salt, spices, oil etc. Communication with the property management was good.

Perfect for family of 10
This house was really great for my family (me, my husband, my daughters, my son-in-law, my in-laws, and my brother-in-law and his family). Everyone had plenty of space to have their alone time when needed, and we all loved hanging out in the backyard -- we especially loved swimming in the pool! I just have a couple of complaints that I hope can be used to help the property management company in ensuring the stay for the next families are even better: 1) The property listing says it has 5 bedrooms, but that is not true. There are 4 true bedrooms, and the "office" served as a 5th bedroom for my youngest daughter (who is 19) and my niece (who is 11). This room was right next to the laundry room, and was very poor in sound quality...they could hear everything that went on in the kitchen and laundry room, and said it was hard to sleep because of that. 2) Many of the pillows in the rooms were way too soft. I heard complaints from 4 of the 10 of us about them. It would be awesome if extra pillows could be available in the closets for people...that way, anyone who wants firmer pillows could swap out if they want. 3) We noticed that trash from a previous family had been missed by the cleaning crew...in one of the bedrooms, my father-in-law dropped something and when he went to pick it up, he saw an empty vodka bottle and food under the bed that looked like it had been there for awhile. But other than that, I saw no other evidence of that sort of thing. 4) Communication with the property management company was horrible. I reached out to them twice before the trip with some questions. The first time, I had to follow up with them asking for a response before they actually responded. The second time, they didn't respond at all...not until AFTER we'd already been in the house for 2 days! They said they were having staffing problems, but I find it hard to believe they can't find the time to respond to an email AT ALL, even just to give an expectation of when I could expect a response. I'm giving this overall rating of 4 stars because my family truly enjoyed the house and, like I said, we had plenty of space and totally enjoyed ourselves. However, I don't think I would rent any property again that is managed by this particular company, due to the extremely poor communication. Fortunately, my questions weren't of the urgent nature, but if they had been, I would have been totally screwed.

Great potential but…
We love the island and we have stayed there many times (always perfect). This time the property had a great potential but few things made our stay difficult: the pool was filthy and unusable until the last day of our stay. When I say dirty, I mean truly not cleaned for weeks. We had to buy chemicals ourselves and only on the last day the professionals arrived to help us . On Saturday, the day of our check out, the pool was perfect….4 days too late. Additionally, bedroom number 5 was advertised as 2 double beds and truly, delivered a day bed instead and as we planned to have our 2 Kids to occupy it, we really could not. We had a family of 8 in total traveling with us, so we really needed it but had to improvised to fit everyone in. Otherwise, location was great and house was good but for the first time we decided to rent a house with the pool and really look forward to the experience. Instead we ended up very disappointed and had spend hours explaining our kids why it’s not good to go to the water. Eventually we did but instead of using it for all 4days, we only had the opportunity for one… not cool.

Terrific house especially for a family getaway. Central to golf, grocery stores, restaurants, shopping and beach. Had a little trouble with the heating system but called and it was promptly fixed. The house was great and the pool was wonderful. We came down for a week of virtual learning with our 9 and 12 year old for a change of scenery. The house was large enough for everyone to spread out with their own work spaces and the pool was an amazing break time for everyone. The house has everything you need for dinners and cooking. We brought our bikes but there are 2 bike rental places within a half mile of the neighborhood. The beach was an easy bike ride as are restaurants. We will definitely stay again.

Great House with Plenty of Room & Amenities
We stayed here with my wife's family for a milestone birthday celebration (even brought our dog). The house was very clean with plenty of space and has everything you'll need to cook, entertain, and relax. The neighborhood's great for walking and the beach is right around the corner. It has a few very minor issues but nothing that should deter you from staying. We'd definitely stay here again!
