This was our first night on Kauai and I booked the Hotel Coral Reef based on price and proximity to the airport. It was so much more! Late check-in was smooth, big comfy bed, in the morning I found we had a balcony view of sunrise over the ocean, and the front desk called me after we'd checked out for a forgotten item. Wonderful!

I felt the property actually looked and felt very different from the photographs. It was very expensive for what it had to offer. Our room was old and not in great condition. I was glad to have only reserved it for one night. Our view was of some buildings and garbage dumpsters. We didn’t see the pool during our stay. We arrived late and had to phone a caretaker to check us in. We left fairly early in the morning

Family Owned Gem!
This sweet family owned gem in Kapa'a is a must stay. Ocean view room was clean, spacious and what a view! We decided to stay another day. This wasn't our first visit to Kauai and it won't be our last, but finally we found a nice place to stay that won't break the bank. Amenities were great, clean pool, close to shops and restaurants, short drive to Princeville, and Poipu. They also had beach chairs, towels and a cooler for us to take to the beach. Great location to stay on the east side, great service, we will be back here.

If you are looking for a quiet neighborhood this is not. Maintenance on this property Is poor. My room Ocean front Crack tiles Rusted railings. Drapes that haven't been washed. It looked like mold on one picture frame. I was dissatisfied.

A Blast from the Past of Old Kauai
Hotel Coral Reef is an historic hotel in the heart of Kapaa. Old water features and beautiful grounds. Fun pool and right on the oceanfront. Lots of amenities to borrow for the beach or whatever. Room was a little dated, but comfy, huge bed. Had to figure out the wiring to get the fan working without the lights being on to sleep. Friendly staff, offered banana bread samples. Connected outdoor cafe great for breakfast. Also right on the ocean trail for walking, biking, etc. Ice machine, guest laundry, elevator. Would definitely stay here again.

All and all a good experience if you are on a budget, beautiful ocean view. Only disappointment was housekeeping. We were told we needed to request before noon. We were staying a week and I requested housekeeping on our 4th day. Came back from the beach at 3, still dirty. Called front desk and was interegated, "what did you request? Full service? Towells? What! Wow, I was like housekeeping. She said well they are cleaning owners apartment I will call them. An hour later a very overwhelmed gentleman came to our door to tell us he was the only housekeeper because the other housekeeper was cleaning owners apartment. He didnt have clean towels and had to come back with toilet paper. He said towels were drying and he would be back leave dirty towells on the floor in the doorway. We had supplies by 5pm, nothing else. Carpet really needed vacuuming and clean sheets would have been nice. Found very large cockroach on the 6th day. Most hotels, this is not a condo, insist on coming in to a room every 3 days, not them. Never heard a peep, no phone call or text to welcome us, ask how are stay was. So needless to say I never requested housekeeping again. Not sure why owners apartment was a bigger priority then a guest, literally would have taken 30 minutes to clean our room. Also, don't tell us. Just say you are short staffed today, let me get you supplies and come back tomorrow. Nope, never offered to come back. So as a result, I wont be back.

This is not a chain hotel and it shows. Super friendly staff, clean comfortable room, just enough amenities so you can explore and enjoy the surrounding area. Perfect location for all kinds of adventures.

Good little spot
Our room was clean. Other parts of property weren’t clean like elevator floor— lots of food crumbs all over but minor over all. Didn’t use elevator much as stairs were faster. And while the room was clean and bed pretty comfortable, some of the room appeared to be needing some attention ( trim paint & some wall cleaning needed around light switches and door handles- but minor overall) We were pleasantly surprised with an 3rd floor ocean view upgrade - previously assigned a parking lot view. We were very appreciative of this and the early check in. The lady who worked in the office was great and super accommodating. For a reasonable short-term stay, I would recommend this place and would stay again Bike/walking path right in front was a great addition too. Property provides loaner bikes and other things

We stayed for a week in an ocean view apartment. Whether or not you like this hotel will depend on a couple of things so here is the good and the bad. Good: location. It's in walking distance of Kapa'a and there is a nice walkway that spans quite a distance. The hotel has free bikes, a small pool, and and a small beach front. You can book a massage on the beach for extra. The view is lovely. Also, Kapa'a is fairly central to most of the island. The staff at the hotel are very friendly and accommodating. There is a small walk up restaurant for breakfast at the hotel. The bad: The room was very adequate but the carpet had lots of water stains. There is a fridge but no kitchen so don't plan to cook here. There is a nice soaking tub but no grab bars. Very nice balcony though. You have to request housekeeping but they do a great job when requested. The traffic in front of the hotel is pretty busy, but parking was never a problem. Over all, we would stay again. Not an all-inclusive place by any means and not a resort feel. But a good place to stay if you plan to drive the island each day.

Beautiful Location but Still Overpriced
The property was in a wonderful location right by the beach. The staff was nice but the property older, a little run down, and overpriced. I was looking forward to the free bicycle use but they were in pretty bad shape.

The people running the property were wonderful and very friendly. Hotel has beach towels, and chairs to borrow. And bikes you can use. They had home made banana bread in the lobby almost every day. View from the room was amazing. Room was pretty quiet. The rosters that were everywhere on the island are kind of loud starting around 5am, not the hotels fault it's a Hawaii thing, they can be kind of a nuisance.

Great location. AC died & no support. Unfortunate!
Overall the property was in a great location and a nice room. My issue is that my AC stopped working mid through the first night. I woke up with this issue in a steaming hot room. I called the front desk before heading out for the day and they said they would send someone right away. I returned to the room that evening around 11pm and couldn’t get ahold of anyone on the phone and had to sleep a second night with no AC but was at least able to open the door before going to sleep. The next morning I have to leave for the airport at 6am and there wasn’t anyone to talk to about the issue and I never heard a word from anyone.
