Holiday apartment St. Niklausen OW for 4 - 5 persons with 2 bedrooms - Farmhouse

ED Ref. 2191846

Holidays in the monument combines heritage preservation and tourism. Historically valuable construction tools are taken over, gently renovated and rented as holiday apartments. The model makes a double profit: the monuments get a new future and the holidaymakers experience a stay in an extraordinary building. The idea is realized by the foundation Ferien im Baudenkmal (FiB), which was founded in 2005 by the Swiss Heritage Society.

Parking: The parking lot is located directly at the house and is not covered. The access to the house is guaranteed.

Public transport: Take the train from Lucerne to Sarnen / Brünig. From Sarnen by postal bus to St. Niklausen post office. There can be requested a shuttle service of the guest relations.

Number of persons 4-5: There is an old wooden cot (up to 2 years) and a highchair available. The house can accommodate five guests (plus baby). The apartment is located in the two upper floors on two floors. The large kitchen with dining table, the cozy living room with a sofa bed for one person and a bathroom with bath and toilet can be found in the 2nd. Floor. In the attic above there are two double bedrooms. The bedrooms are equipped with heating. The floors are made of wood which is why we recommend good slippers.

Garden: The change covers the whole home. A seat next to the entrance allows for outdoor living. Next to the house is a cowshed with haystack. We kindly ask you not to smoke in the yard as a result of the animals and due to firefighting reasons.

WLAN: Is available.

Open: The house can be rented all year round.

Pets: Pets are not allowed.

Altitude: 835 meters above sea level.

Grosshostett - Obwaldner farmhouse
History & Information
The Grosshostett is an imposing farmhouse that must have caused a sensation in its construction in the 1770s, as it burst with its generous volume and floor plan the then usual frame. The timber construction with steep gable roof counts two full and two developed attic floors. The symmetrical layout of the floorplan, which runs parallel to the ridge, suggests that it was originally designed as a semi-detached house. It is the only nationally protected farmhouse in the canton of Obwalden and has been preserved almost completely in its original state.

In the Grosshostett four to six people can spend unique holidays with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.
The well-sunny house is located in a hamlet near St. Niklausen above Kerns at 835 m above sea level. at the entrance of the big Melchtal. The municipality Kerns counts approx. 4000 inhabitants. From the village you can enjoy a good view of the Obwalden mountains and over the Sarnersee. The location is very quiet and idyllic. The Way of St. James and the Brother Klaus Way lead through the village and on into the adjoining Ranft Gorge, into which St. Niklaus of Flüe (Brother Klaus) had retreated. From St. Niklausen can be reached via the Melchstrasse into the Melchtal up to the Stöckalp, from where the ski station Melchsee-Frutt can be reached with a gondola lift. In summer, a one-lane road leads up to the station.

renovation
First construction phase: For the architects Monika and Eugen Imhof, who were commissioned with the renovation in 2002, it was clear from the beginning that a gentle planning, taking into account the existing means and valences, was necessary here. Together with the preservation of monuments and the client, who took over many of the work himself, the façades, the ancient leaded glass windows and the two basement floors were repaired. The repairs were supported with generous support of the Homeland Security, so the historic windows could be preserved and renewed, the floors were, where necessary, supplemented with their own spruce wood and the sanitary facilities were adapted to modern standards.

Second construction phase: In 2016, the work of the second construction phase came to an end. With the same approach, the maintenance of the two top floors - which house the apartment - was planned. Whenever possible, historic building materials were used for the repurposing work. Thus, the new floor coverings in the kitchen and bathroom have been personally laid by the owner with their own spruce wood. Also large parts of the interior were made by Mr. Windlin himself. The result is an exciting juxtaposition of historical and modern elements that gently blend into the extraordinary monument.

IMPORTANT SUPPLEMENT
The Grosshostett is a monument that has been renovated with great respect for the existing substance. The tenant is aware of this and meets the object with care. Although technically state-of-the-art, certain functional details do not correspond to common standards today and harbor a potential source of danger. These circumstances are known to the tenant. The owner, e-domizil and the foundation Ferien im Baudenkmal disclaim all liability.

Dafür so viel Geld bezahlt. Vermieter waren freundlich.
