This hotel was just okay. It wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t amazing. We stayed two nights, the parking was easy which we appreciated. The French restaurant rotating above was a beautiful fine dining experience. However we got the best room type they have on the top floor and it still left a bit to be desire, mattresses that you can feel the wires through, cheap hot bedding, in an outdated room. Not the end of the world but a more comfortable bed would go a long ways. All in all an alright stay.

This was a very helpful, comfortable stay We had two rooms as we extended the stay On arrival, during the stay and after staying at the hotel the staff were amazing The concierge past our stay, we had moved on to Osaka, kept us informed of what to do with the typhoon, she let us know via email of transport and days best to leave our accommodation in Osaka so we wouldn’t get stuck. We were recommended to book the bullet train and leave at a certain day and time. This was invaluable, and prevented us from transport closures. Staff go above and beyond and the facility was awesome

The hotel and staff very helpful. Hotel was in a good place for the main train station if using bullet trains etc. Bit of a walk/taxi to centre. Hotel was great other than i did feel if you are a guest of the hotel you should not have to pay for the pool as an extra.

Never having been to Japan, we didn’t know what to expect of Japanese hotels. The Rihga Royal was exceptional. The staf. Was courteous and helpful. The room was clean and modern and the bed very comfortable. We paid for breakfast with the room and dined almost every morning in the revolving restaurant on the top of the hotel. Spectacular views and great food. I highly recommend it. Most guests ate at the buffet on the first floor (more food selection) and missed out on a great experience. Great staff and great value. I would stay here again.

It’s a big hotel. I liked the train station free shuttle, it was super convenient to catch the busses into the city from the station. The staff is not the friendliest. There was something cold about each and every staff member I interacted with. I was disappointed in the pool. It doesn’t state on their website that you pay extra for it. The reason I mainly booked the hotel was for the pool so my child can use it. I had to make reservations for it and it cost about $7US dollars for an adult and about $5 for a child. My room was small and did not look big like in the photo of it. There are restaurants nearby and a family mart as well. It wasn’t so bad, but I definitely regretted not getting something closer to the city.

This hotel was much cleaner than when I last stayed here a year ago. You can select three levels of housekeeping for the room, or no cleaning, and I selected the highest level and they did a good job. No dirty sheets this year. Room did not smell bad this year. We had breakfast in the Top of Kyoto restaurant on the 14 th floor and it was amazing. The restaurant rotates slowly so your view changes. This hotel is walkable from Kyoto Station but they also have a shuttle bus every 20 minutes that picks up by the West Gate of the station. It is near the clam ramen restaurant, which I highly recommend. You do hear the trains at night but it is right by the train tracks. The breakfast buffet in the hotel restaurant had many Kyoto specialties as well as Western food. The orange and apple jellies for dessert were a real treat. The reception staff was welcoming and spoke English well. There are usually taxis available in front of the hotel but it is also a short walk to Tokyo Station where you can pick up many of the busses to the temples and also the subway. There are many coin lockers at the station so you can stash your bags and explore the city unfettered by luggage. There is a food court underneath the bus stops and also many food options in the station. We particularly enjoyed the pork buns at 551 Horai which is by the West Gate of the station.

Not sure what people are complaining about when it comes to the condition of the building and rooms. The exterior needs a tiny bit of work but the interior is far better. It's a 4 star hotel, not a 5 star. The service was definitely 5 star though, make sure to use the shuttle to Kyoto station! Our Superior room was fantastic and it was the largest room we had on our trip. Super clean and the design was very nice. I'd stay here again.

We extended our stay here at the conclusion of a tour. It is not too long of a walk from Kyoto Station, and they offer bus service to and from, which is helpful if you are moving luggage. Breakfast at the place is great. Room was clean and spacious for two people. We used the luggage delivery service at the hotel to forward luggage ahead of time from Kyoto to Tokyo. It was straightforward, and staff were helpful completing forms and holding luggage for us.

Great property to stay. They have a swimming pool (you pay extra to use) which was so nice after a hot day walking around. Friendly staff, food was great would highly recommend the breakfast in the revolving tower.
