Cute lake house
Had a great time, beautiful view, and the lake was great. The kitchen was stocked well with everything you need. However, the paddle boat was broken and we were not able to use it. The hot tub worked great! Would recommend and would stay here again!

Just a short walk to the lake
The lake and water accessories available were nice to have (kayak, paddleboard, fishing poles). There were Fish to catch as well. You could easily kayak to the beach area also. An older property and not the most comfortable beds, and the basement had a basement smell, but everything we needed was available and there was enough space for everyone to gather and eat together. I wish there had been more dishwasher soap and trash bags. You will have to drive your trash to the exit when you leave. The price was very reasonable.

Delightful retreat
The two things I wished I had known were: the wifi is unreliable. I tried to make a brief appearance on Zoom calls for work and it would not support that (it's just a T Mobile cell hotspot, and mostly had only 2 bars when we were there. on Speed Tests it clocked anywhere between <1MBps and 10Mbps - as luck would have it, <1 when I was trying to get through to work). I have Verizon on my phone and had only 1 bar at the house. I had told people I was available and so had to drive and sit in the local grocery store parking lot to make calls.

Perfect getaway
Easy to rent. Good communication with owners. Enjoyed the property. It is close to lake lure with out being in the busy part. Mirror lake was really peaceful and we pretty much had it to ourselves. It is in a nice gated community that is spread out. Awesome trip. 100% would book and stay here again. House has everything you need. The only negative mark I have is the size of the dock. It is tiny. Something tells me that it has to be though since they all seemed to be roughly the same size.

Short getaway
Overall a great experience. The house was as described. My only complaint was there were several roaches in the living room/kitchen area, and roach droppings in areas. The house was clean, however I hate roaches. The house probably could use pest control

Wonderful
We enjoyed 4 beautiful days at The Red Canoe. Being fall the leaves were turning and the view of the lake from the house and the dock were stunning. The canoes, kayaks and paddle boat provided were wonderful for paddling around the lake. The house was very comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked to cook our meals at the house. Fun game area in the basement. Enjoyed the hot tub. The loft area with the king bed was very comfortable. Since it doesn't have walls noise does carry up to the loft but we found if you turn on the bathroom fan it acted as white noise. We took a trip to Chimney Rock and explored Lake Lure but most of our time we enjoyed just relaxing, enjoying the peace and quiet and the beauty. We definitely would love to return.

Relaxing break
The house was clean and comfortable with all the things we needed for a week stay. We loved the hot tub and walking down to the dock for fishing, swimming or canoeing. We explored the area as well and enjoyed the beach, mini golf, hiking and a few good dinners out. The grocery was pretty close as well so we could prepare several dinners at the house. All in all, a great vacation.

Get away from it all!
We enjoyed our time at the Red Canoe. The setting is awesome. Having a private lake with canoes and stand up paddle board to explore was really nice. The "neighborhood" is so quiet and beautiful. We loved the swimming hole, beach and waterfall. The house is very well equipped. My boys loved the Foosball table in the evenings and we made some great memories with our inability to play ping pong. The only thing I wish I would have realized before booking this home is that the master bedroom/bathroom is in the loft with no actual door. Between those that snore in the family and mixed sleep schedules (some stay up late, some get up early), the master bedroom can hear everything happening on the main level and vice versa. Otherwise we greatly enjoyed our stay and John and Madelyn were very nice to work with!

Total Waste of Vacation Time and Money
We spent three weeks searching for an awesome place to visit for our annual Family Vacation. When we saw Red Canoe with all its wonderful reviews and a long list of desirables we knew we had found it. We booked it and anxiously awaited our stay. The plan was to spend some time out in the backyard playing corn hole, swinging in the hammock, and throwing the frisbee around. We were excited to spend time swimming in the lake. The house offered everything you could ask for. That's the vacation we paid over a thousand dollars for. But here is what actually happended. The first thing when we arrived the dirt road just before the driveway had a huge mound of rock and dirt and gullies the full distance across the road. We should have been told we would need a 4x4. Every time we entered and exited the house we had to tear up the bottom of our car. On the third day a man in a tractor came and fixed the road. When we went inside we unpacked and headed downstairs to play ping pong and checkers. In moments it became apparent that the place was overrun with spiders. I don't mean we saw a few spiders and I'm whining. No, there were spiders everywhere. Everytime you moved a spider was fleeing. We decided it was probably just because that was the basement and it wouldn't be so bad upstairs. Later that night I was in the recliner and had grabbed a blue blanket from the closet. I fell asleep and woke up to see a giant black spider climbing across my lap. I screamed and threw the blanket away and watched in horror as three spiders scurried out from the blanket I was sleeping under!!! The next day we decided to get outside. Only the yard hadn't been mowed in a long time and it wasn't exactly the paradise we were hoping for. The Lake, ironically called Mirror Lake, was brown the entire trip. At first we hoped it was just from rain stirring it up but instead the entire time the lake looked like a giant mud puddle. I have pictures. Lake Lure, right down the road is clear and lovely but this isn't a place you would want to swim in. I could go on but I hate to be the one to leave a bad review. But the thing is, I hate even more that we wasted our Family Vacation on a spider infested house next to a giant mud puddle. Plus, all of that money for this type of experience. We have spent less and had far better vacations. We travel twice a year so we travel quite a bit and this is only the second bad review I have ever left. I wish someone had told me before we booked.

The house and property were beautiful and very comfortable.
The location was near many interesting places like Asheville, the Biltmore, Chimney Rock and the town of Lake Lure. Since we had rainy weather almost every day, we were close enough to take road trips to the Smokey Mountains and Clingmans Dome, the Blue Ridge Parkway and Mt Mitchell, Maggie Valley to see the Wheels Through Time museum. We also visited Asheville for a couple of meals and a tour of the Biltmore and wine tasting at their vineyards. We had a great time exploring the area and staying in the very comfortable home, The Red Canoe.

Spacious home, great view
Our family loved our stay at the Red Canoe! Three floors provided plenty of space for everyone's activities. The kids took over the small dining area and the downstairs, but we still ate dinner together in the extra dining space in the sunroom or on the deck. The lake was warm and clean. We rowed the canoes and paddle board, even watched the sunrise. For most of the week, we had the smallish, quiet lake to ourselves. The wifi seemed to be spotty throughout the area, which was one of two inconveniences of the house. The other: the third floor master suite lacked optimum privacy, except for the bathroom of course. But, I'm happy to trade the privacy for the airy, bright, spacious home with the fantastic lake view.

Lovely, tranquil lake home
We had a wonderful family vacation at the Red Canoe! Our first impressions of the home were positive, especially the view of the lake from the living room. There was plenty of space in each bedroom and having three bathrooms was a plus. We enjoyed the paddleboat, canoes and paddle board every single day since our weather each day was beautiful. While traveling in to the Lake Lure area, we found two outstanding restaurants--LaStrada and Larkins on the Lake. (Excellent food and service at both!) Our family members spent a lot of time reading, relaxing and recharging. The house was clean and had everything we needed for cooking and baking. I even made a birthday cake for my husband's/granddaughter's birthday during our stay. The only suggestion I would make is for the cookware to be upgraded a bit. The saucepan and large pot we used most had seen better days, but other than that, the kitchen is very well equipped with everything one could possibly need. Thank you to John and Madelyn Tyson for making all the planning an easy task. John answered each email I had quickly and efficiently. I would strongly recommend Red Canoe to anyone looking for a lovely, tranquil lake home in the Lake Lure area. Cindy (Hughesville, Pennsylvania)

Perfect Family Mountain Getaway
The phrase "beautiful and peaceful" in the description is an understatement. My husband and I spent a week at the Red Canoe with our three teenage daughters. We felt we were on a private lake as we rarely saw anyone while using the shady dock or canoeing around Mirror Lake - which lives up to its name. There were several unexpected happy surprises with this property that I did not see shared in other reviews or in the description - the house provides amazing WIFI service (important when traveling with teens), ample soft towels (more than we needed), large empty pantry in the kitchen and lots of games and gear for keeping busy on rainy days. Unlike many of the houses on Lake Lure this home is in a development that provides plenty of green space between the homes. The location was close to Lake Lure / Chimney Rock attractions and Ingles Grocery Store which has just about anything you can think of from freshly ground peanut butter and specialty cheeses to swimming equipment. We highly recommend visiting Chimney Rock State Park and for a nice easy walk in the woods the trails across from Ingles Grocery are lovely. They Old Rock Cafe has good sandwiches and amazing fried pickles. We also really enjoyed the prime rib sandwiches at Medina's Village Bistro. The week flew by and we can't thank the owners enough for providing a location that helped us create very special life long memories.

Wonderful house, every amenity, gorgeous location
I stayed for a girls' weekend with my sister and best friend. The house was very clean and had everything we needed. The kitchen was very well supplied with dishes and utensils - we cooked and ate in most of the time. We had a great time playing ping pong, foosball and sitting on the dock watching the ducks and geese. The location is great - and there were not too many stairs going down to the water. The hot tub was very relaxing and we also watched a movie (it took awhile to figure out how to get the DVD player to actually play). It's a short drive in to the house on the unpaved roads but they were well maintained and we had no trouble. The bedrooms are very nicely set up - we didn't even use the kids bunk room in the basement. We would love to come back to the Red Canoe!

Very Cozy Home
The home is very cozy and great for families with children. The layout is very nice with lots of outdoor space and a beautiful Lake front view. The dock is on a cove, so the location offers lots of privacy. The firepit and benches are great for roasting marshmallows at night. I felt the house needed a little work by adding kitchen gadgets, cooking utinsils, serving pieces, dinner plates/ flatware and glasses, etc. There are many items like wine opener, can opener, pizza cutter, etc that can be purchased at Dollar General. . The TV'S also need upgrading. This is a nice home but it's a premium priced rental so it needs a little TLC to support the rental cost.

Wonderful lakefront home, perfect for so many activities or simply doing nothing at all!
This was my family's first lake-oriented vacation as we have spent the past 30 years enjoying an Oceanside rental on Hilton Head Island. Hurricane Michael changed our plans this year, and we were fortunate enough to book this wonderful property at the very last minute. My husband and I and our 4 adult children enjoyed everything this little gem had to offer. We canoed and paddle boarded, swam from the dock, fished on serene Mirror Lake, roasted hot dogs at the fire pit, snoozed in the hammock, and played some serious ping pong tournaments! The home has very comfortable common space for enjoying meals together and just appreciating the beautiful lake views. The location was perfect for a side trip into Asheville, as well as numerous hiking opportunities for all of us. The home was very clean, and a minor housekeeping issue was dealt with very quickly and professionally! Thanks John! Maybe it was the mountain air, or the daily activities, or a great mattress; but I slept like a baby each night of our stay (and this is noteworthy)! We loved our first lake/mountain vacation! It will not be our last! We're "hooked"! (Though, sadly, no fish were...)

Wonderful place with great amenities
Beautiful house on a gorgeous private lake. Excellent amenities including 2 canoes, a paddle board, and a paddle-boat. Kids loved the Foosball table and especially the ping-pong table during rainy days, of which there were many. A beautiful dock for swimming, jumping and just enjoying all kinds water fun. Fishing was decent during our 2-week August stay, but we had to really work to get bass -- somewhat successful with Carolina rigs. Kids were able to catch sunfish right off the dock with bobber and worms. Lots of fun stuff to do nearby and the kids really enjoyed mining for gems and rocks, hiking, snorkeling in the Broad river and geocashing. Adults enjoyed the relaxation and the spacious house with large sitting and eating areas. Another huge plus is that there is a grocery store nearby (~4.4 miles away), so you don't have to lug all your food with you and can acquire necessities with very little effort during your stay. A huge thanks to our gracious hosts for allowing us to stay at the Red Canoe.

Our vacation
This property was great. Very well appointed and very clean. Plenty of play things for the kids. I would recommend an upgrade to the Main floor Television to a large Flat Screen. That room holds the most people at the same time. I would love to rent this again next year. Our thanks to the Tysons for allowing our dog Jaxon to accompany us.!

a bit less than expected
I was not going to do a review as I hate to be critical but paying almost 2K for the week I figured it was my duty to share my experience. Overall the property is OK. I didn't expect dirt roads to get to it but I drive a truck so it was easy to navigate. The positives: the bedding and linens were good. The boats and paddleboard were a plus, not much use but fun when we got the chance. The bathrooms were clean and stocked although showering in the loft if tight and awkward and the main level shower sceams at least half the time it is being used.(needs a pressure relief valve or something). Got to use the hammock once which was very peaceful after a day of WW rafting, need to get one for myself. The kitchen was stocked well enough for our needs although I wish there had been an icemaker. The hot tub works but there are numerous missing jets so u get 2 good seats at best, but it did what it was intended to do. The TV situation is a bit odd, kept getting kicked off dish network saying unauthorized programming (??) The not so positives: Pressure cleaning or any cleaning of the exterior of the house and deck would go a long way, it is pretty dirty. The interior was cleanish for the most part, lots of stuff on some of the windows sills and the doors especially going to the main level deck needs a good scrubbing, looks like its been years since cleaned and it was kinda gross. Lots of ants crawling in different areas of the house, mainly the ground floor. NOW for the GRILL!! :-(( I am surprised it hasn't blown the place up. First, it took me 6 steam cleanings to get all the crap off the grates
