As soon as we arrived we loved this pretty and quirky retreat. Our young daughters enjoyed exploring the garden (although there was some dog poo on the lawn, which accounts for the loss of one star from the cleanliness rating), and the trails, and Uncle Michael is friendly and kind.
Inside, the property is cosy and fun, with everything you need for a stay at any time of year. You only need to bring food supplies…
We enjoyed family film night on the snuggly sofa upstairs, hot tub dips, star gazing and roasting marshmallows round the firepit. There is a nice viewpoint with red chairs in the garden, which is the perfect place to spot eagles soaring. We don’t have eagles like this where we live, so that was a treat.
It’s a perfect base for exploring parts of the Oregon coast, including the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport, dramatic trails and cliffs near Cape Perpetua, the cute foodie town of Florence (try Nosh and River Roasters for great food and drink indulgences), C&M stables for horseback riding in the dunes and on the beach, Jessie M Honeyman state memorial park, numerous beaches (we visited Horsfall), and a drive up the Umpqua River Valley to Eugene (where you can enjoy yummy fish and chips at Newmans and craft beer at The Bier Stein) is gorgeous on a sunny day…
We hope to be back in the US (and Oregon) one day, and would definitely love to stay here again.
Highly recommended for families, but it would also be a magical honeymoon spot!
Thank you Tim (and Uncle Michael).
