I may have given a higher rating had the management's response to our complaint been handled as it should have been. It was approx. 35 degrees, yet the air con in our family room didn't seem to be working properly. I raised it before we went out for dinner, but only found out after we returned around 2100 that they could not mend it. The only option was to move room, but we were getting up at 0330 and had our 2 children who were in bed by this point.
Although I understand that it could not be fixed immediately, their compensation was some Melia points or a discount off our next stay - an airport hotel in Lisbon, not somewhere we plan on making a habit of staying. Should they not be checking that their units are working correctly without a guest having to raise the issue? For the simple ease of keeping a customer happy, when the hotel's lack of care for their property is the reason, I would have expected more.
My husband and I are both travel agents - they won't be receiving any recommendations from us as the penny-pinching on their part, for an over-priced room as it was has soured the stay and the end of the holiday for us.
On the plus side, credit where credit is due:
- Nice pool area to keep the children happy for an hour in the heat
- Very good breakfast
Other drawbacks:
- towels in room smelt revolting
- even arriving 10mins early for the shuttle, it was full and we had to walk
