I was actually given a room in the neighboring Grenville Hotel, rather than the Guilford.
It was a very small single. Furnishings were all in poor condition, the place desperately needs cleaning and airing out. The single-glazed windows did nothing to shut out the city noise anyway, but the smell of damp means you're best leaving it open.
The "bathroom" (crammed inside a sodden cupboard) was really grim. Despite following the quirky instructions, I could get no hot water from the tap or the shower.

Decent price, great location, good service
Its a decent hotel at quite center of london. For a decent price. Much better than staying at the airBnB or hostels.
Its close to chancery lane tube station and has plenty restaurants nearby.
The breakfast is okayish but the hosts are very hospitable.

Better then reviews suggested
Really only needed a base for one night, it was good for that reason....was warm, quiet, clean....small room, small bathroom...but everything was there for you to use....WiFi is extra....breakfast, although included, not up to much, cereal & toast only.... Was allowed to check in at 11.30, that was a big bonus....

Breakfast was useful
Sadly this place is not fit for purpose! I rarely give a bad review and always try and highlight the good points too but here there just wasn’t any! It was just awful!
We ended up with the family room (still at £256 per night) as booked at short notice which was fine. There were 2 double beds and 2 singles, one of the beds was next to a mouldy wall and the other 2 had dirty pillow cases and sheets so me and my daughter had to share the only bed that was slightly better luckily one of the doubles! The wardrobe we opened and the back had fallen off the doors were broken as was the floor. All the chest of draws had seen better days. There was no toilet roll in what I can only describe as a filthy small plastic caravan shower/toilet. The carpet was so dirty that we didn’t even want to take our shoes and socks off! The sockets kept making loud noises so we had to turn them all off just in case and if we had turn the rusty old lamp on it may well have blown up! I would really encourage people not to stay here as you will be disappointed and then it’s too late! We didn’t bother complaining as the rest of the building looked just as bad so wouldn’t have been anywhere else to go!
The room was very dated, there was no tea, coffee or milk.
It was clean to a point but could have been cleaner.
The bathroom needed to be much cleaner. It was extremely small and would have been more suited to a caravan or mobile home.
Breakfast was cereal and toast. Not a continental breakfast that was advertised.
A very cheap and cheerful hotel that could do with some freshening up and a bit of maintenance. A bit grubby around the corners and probably needs a coat of paint.
Breakfast is toast or cereal.

Room was okay, dusty in places, bathroom was like a touring caravan wwtroom with drain in middle of floor and a hard bed but slept well.
Breakfast is cereal, toast with help yourself preserve, jam, marmalade etc, tea/coffee and orange juice.
It was only for one night, as soon as arrived we went out, not returning till 11.30pm and was out again by 9.45am after breakfast.
For 1 night you couldn't complain, was only to rest your head.
Worst hotel I’ve cross the whole world , the room dirty and small bad, bathroom was horrible , breakfast, bred, serials with no bowl to use, spoons and knives not clean , we couldn’t speed , paid for breakfast , but found myself going to Costa to by bfrsjfast .
Person was filming the breakfast area show the people how bad was that thing as I won’t cooled hotel , in heart of London .
We didn't stay. Alrhough we did not expect luxury, we did not expect the filth that met us! It was an absolute disgrace. The person on reception did offer a change of rooms to their sister hotel, next door, this was slighzly cleaner but in no way acceptable.
Arrived to be given a basement room which was disgusting. Dust everywhere and carpet hadn't been cleaned in a long time. Then we went to look at the en suite bathroom...wow. i wouldnt allow an animal to wash in there....filthy!!!
After highlighting the state we were given another room in the next hotel along and although it was slightly better, still dust and hadn't been hoovered.
It is an insult to charge over £100 per night to stay here....the place needs a power wash. If there is any organisation that is supposed to check hotels....i would visit asap as someone is going to get sick staying here.
Th room was too hot as the radiator was on full blast next to the bed
The bed sloped so had to turn bedding round to sleep at the other end
The bathroom wasn’t clean and very small
