Holiday In Macau
You’ve been everywhere and done everything. Except you haven’t been to Macau, China, and you haven’t played cards with the sharks in its casinos.
Come on, we know you’re attracted to those bright lights. But that’s not the only thing this city has going for it. You’ve got see the temples and the museums, and eat as much of the food as you can. Check out lastminute.co.nz’s great selection of offers on Macau holiday packages and say goodbye to the norm for a while.
Things to Do in Macau
Like most major Chinese cities, Macau is expansive, so grab a vehicle from lastminute.co.nz’s Macau car hire options. One thing you’ve got to check out is A-Ma Temple, one of the oldest and most famous Taoist temples in the region. Get a glimpse of the boat model inside the main building and don’t forget to hang a prayer card on the tree in the courtyard.
Once your time at the temple is up, make your Macau holiday even better with a trip to the Macau Museum, located on the hill of the Fortaleza do Monte (the city’s 16th-century fort). The museum is dedicated to the history of Macau, and some of its major collections include Chinese and Western paintings, along with historic photographs.
Shopping, Dining & Nightlife
Senado Square. That name probably doesn’t mean much right now, but it will soon, because it’s one of the places you should go shopping during Macau holidays. Many of the fashion stores in this area sell high-end clothes for affordable prices. Sleeping in a pair of pure silk pyjamas that you bought for the price of a T-shirt will make you rest easy at night. Macau also has a bustling casino district that contains many modern shopping malls just like the ones in Vegas.
The cuisine of this region of China was heavily influenced by the Portuguese, so when you get hungry, make your way down to the Macau Fisherman’s Wharf area to sample fine seafood. Get a plate of Macanese chili shrimp, stir-fry curry crab and Portuguese-style egg tart. All that with a glass of ginger milk? It can’t get any better.
Remember those casinos we talked about earlier? Get a room at one of them with a Macau package because that’s where you’re going to want to find yourself at night. This place is known as “Las Vegas of the Far East”, and for good reason. Many of the gaming hot spots you’ll find in the desert have a place here on the Macau peninsula, and the nightclubs within those casinos are just as bumping. But if you want a true neon-night experience, get on one of our Hong Kong holiday packages and make the 62-kilometre trek to the place where Batman extracted Mr. Lau.
