Holiday In Malta
Do you know where the Republic of Malta is? It’s the little island that would be next on the tee for Italy to kick if Sicily weren’t in the way.
Anyways, where were we? Oh yeah, Malta. The place with some of the best Mediterranean beaches in Europe. The place with a grotto that would make Mr. Hefner jealous. Ready to explore? So are we. Browse lastminute.co.nz’s great selection of offers on Malta holiday packages and get going!
Things to Do in Malta
This island isn’t that big, but you should still get a vehicle from lastminute.co.nz’s Malta car hire options so you can cruise around at will. Once you’ve got your wheels, head over to the Hypogeum of Hal-Saflieni, a subterranean temple dating back to 3300 B.C. There’s three levels, but the second level is where the Main Chamber, the Oracle Room and the Snake Pit are located. We don’t even want to know what went on down there.
Remember the grotto we talked about earlier? We weren’t kidding it’s a series of sea caverns on the southern coast called the Blue Grotto. Take a boat trip anytime from sunrise to 1 p.m., so you can witness the unique light show that occurs. The position of the cave combined with the sunlight causes the water to turn all different shades of blue. It’s like an azure kaleidoscope.
Shopping, Dining & Nightlife
It’s a European country in the middle of the Mediterranean, so of course there’s shopping. Don’t expect to find massive malls during your holiday in Malta those don’t exist here. Instead, you’ll find neighbourhood markets that sell all sorts of craft goods. Places like the Ta’ Qali Craft Village, the Marsaxlokk market and the Gozo area. Get your hands on some handmade brass door knockers, filigree silverware and hand-blown glass pottery.
If you want a variety of places to eat during Malta holidays, hang out in the capital city of Valletta. There’s restaurants and cafes all over the place, but if you’re looking to really immerse yourself in the culture, plan your visit around one of the feasts. What feasts? Saint Paul’s Feast, Saint Dominic’s Feast or the feast of Saint Augustine, just for starters. Hope you’re hungry!
You see the sun setting? That means the Maltese are ready to party. If you’d like to party with them during your Malta holiday, head to the Paceville district just north of the town of St. Julian. The bars and clubs here go off until the early morning, so be prepared for a long night. It’s easy to lose track of time when you’re throwing back pints of Cisk, the locally brewed beer.
What’s Next?
Who doesn’t want to spend time on a beautiful Mediterranean island? We’re guessing you’re on the other side of the spectrum and would love to hang on an island. If that’s the case, browse our amazing offers on Malta packages and forget about all your worries when you’re hanging in the Blue Grotto.
