A secluded home built from the remains of an early 20th century country hotel, Baxter's has been a caretaker of friends, families, artists, thinkers and anyone who enjoys following the arc of the sun.
Baxter Lodge offers peaceful and spacious quarters for either a couple, group or family to recharge, rejoice and reconnect with the simple pleasures of life.
The Master bedroom… you won’t want to leave. Sleep, daydream, write, open the double French doors. Repeat. King bed with king pillows with views North and East, this room can be as light or as dark as you like. A gorgeous old chaise lounge and robe for either weekend flings or longer stays ensure you feel at home here, no matter your stay.
The Second Room… is a little bit special. A quiet retreat with double windows on two sides to either let that sunrise and mountain air in, or curl up in the dark and listen to the rain for another hour.
The Third Room… is for the sleepers (or the kids) being the darkest room of the house. Twin Rosenstengel beds flank a window that brings the outdoors in. An antique lowboy provides ample storage, ensuring all the comforts of home. And yes if needs be we can setup the beds side by side.
Every room, from the plush wooden carpet underfoot to the gentle stir of the ceiling fan above, invites you to unwind. The windows, equipped with fly screens, offer views of the lush surroundings, all easily enjoyed from a central brick hallway that opens into a vast living and dining space. Here, exposed brick floors and sprawling timber ceilings encapsulate the rustic charm of Baxter Lodge. For your entertainment, a record player, Bluetooth speaker, Samsung Frame TV, and a selection of board games promise well spent evenings.
The large bathroom with shower and clawfoot bath is perfect for dressing up or dressing down; the rear courtyard and firepit faces West for filtered Sunsets; and the huge kitchen with fireplace and central island is ideal for curated plates and conversation.
Outdoors the North facing deck is an entertainer’s dream, with a dining table that seats 8-10 guests that looks out into our favourite forest of Mapleton green. Just steps away, explore the gardens perfect for wanderings and wonderings and (weeding!) though guests with toddlers or younger will need to keep a watchful eye as there are no railings. Hopefully the double hanging chair and double daybed ensures plenty of relaxing/reading options for little legs (and yours) at this tranquil retreat.
