Beautifully designed property; the cave with modern amenities was a great experience! Carla at the front desk is a treasure and took such good care of us recommending excellent places for dinner and things to do in the area. The breakfasts at Conche were delicious as well. Great place to stay.

This town is an adventure into the past. Saying back some 12,000 years its history is revealed in layers. The hotel is an experience like none other as you are living in a cave with modern luxury. The staff is amazing in all regards. Matera and the Sasse is a bucket list adventure. Bring your walking shoes!

Amazing boutique hotel in a genuine Sassi cave, modern renovation makes it very comfortable. The ability to assist with booking car parking (even during the busy festa day) and then arrange a transfer which drops you off 20 metres away was an amazing convenience. The proprietors really go above and beyond to ensure you’re given exemplary service. We stayed in a deluxe room which had two beds for our kids and was amazingly spacious and convenient.

Exceptional in every way
I don't often wax lyrical about the very many stays I have had in hotels and b and bs around the world but Conche Luxury Retreat, in the historic centre of Matera, is absolutely worthy of the highest praise. For a start, even before your arrival, the attentive host Carla contacts you to find out how you are getting to Matera and then works with you to make sure you know exactly how to find this absolute gem of a hotel nestling right in the centre of this Unesco World Heritage Site. On arrival you are taken to a beautifully and tastefully appointed former cave house, now hotel room, and greeted with aperitifs and snacks. And the experience just gets better. Breakfast each morning is an absolute feast -setting you up for the day ahead. Matera itself is simply jaw-droppingly stunning - literally like no other place on earth. I cannot recommend a visit to the city enough and if so, staying at the exceptional Conche Luxury Retreat to make the experience complete.

It’s so beautiful. The design is very chic and unique. It highlights the natural beauty of the cave and also makes it so comfortable and contemporary. The breakfast is amazing. Definitely one of the best hotels I’ve visited.

I am providing 5 stars because 6/7 stars is not available. Absolutely wonderful!! Room was well appointed, modern with very comfortable bed. The breakfast was the most delicious and plentiful we ever had in all our travels to Italy. Victor was a wonderful host, taking time to provide us with a suggested walking tour. Fantastic stay!!

Our stay here was like staying at a boutique hotel. It was so unique and felt completely private. Great in-room amenities and great bed and bedding. The location is great, but as we did you will probably need a taxi from the train station. If you can arrive at Matera Sud, it would be more convenient. Victor from the hotel arranged a taxi for us upon arrival which worked out great. This place offers great customer service and a fabulous breakfast. Can’t recommend it enough.

I must say, I was not sure what the property would be like from online, however from the very first communication..to the check-in all the way to check out I was blown away. Victor at the reception was first class, kind, professional and extremely helpful. He really set the mood and made the experience what it was! For every concern we had, Victor was available and he was so quick to offer solutions to our needs. If you want to be treated like a VIP this is the place to go! I must also say the breakfast was very delicious and was nicely presented!

The property is well placed to explore Matera. Viktor, the manager, made us feel very welcome from the minute we arrived. He took some time with us to explain many of the places to visit during our short stay and this very helpful. Breakfast was outstanding and a great start to each day, especially when we were able to eat 'al fresco' on the terrace outside reception. Viktor was available throughout our stay to offer any help or advice we required.
