Charging $4 for a run-of-the-mill coffee pod was just one example of a cheap, unfriendly nickel-and-diming that made it seem like much less of a deal than the front price would indicate (other examples: limited internet access without Hilton membership for anyone who meets you at the hotel without paying, no breakfast). The in-room air conditioner was much louder than I've experienced anywhere else, and although I was too tired for it to personally keep me up that long, a lighter sleeper would have problems. I asked the staff how to get to places on UW-Madison campus, and they first didn't know and then another told me incorrect directions, when in reality a bus that left from right in front of the hotel every 15 minutes would have taken me right there, but apparently that must have been beneath them? This hotel takes advantage of the Hilton name and the admittedly wonderful location to slack off on the less glamourous aspects of customer service. There are other, better, nearby options.
