I flew in from Sydney the night before i was having a work day in Melbourne so that i could sleep well. I hardly slept staying there. I was given a room adjacent to another one with a door in the middle of the two rooms which made it no-sound-proof at all. Construction works continued throughout the night and the room still had breadcrumbs on the table and a dusty shelf. I was moved to another room after i complaint the next morning and it was much smaller than the previous one. I could still hear construction noise at night. The only good things were the beds and that i was able to leave my luggage when i checked out in their luggage room at no charge. If i could get a refund for this stay.

The hotel is located close to the train station and is 1 block away from the city tram which is free to ride around the Central Business District (CBD). The room was clean and spacious. There is a nice buffet style breakfast in the morning that had hot and cold sections. Shopping and food were in walking distance. Elizabeth street was filled with all kinds of Asian restaurants. The crown casino ( 15 min Tram ride) looked and felt like you were in Vegas. I didn't play as you needed to get a players card with your passport. Good thing as it saved me from myself LOL. The food court was classy with a variety foods. The walk along the river was very pretty and had alot of nice restaurants. I would stay there again as the staff was very nice. There was also a laundry room with a washer and dryer for a small fee of 4.00AUD. At the time the exchange was .66 to the USD.

Holiday inn little collins is very easily accessed from southern cross station. The facilities are basic but very clean. They were very understanding when the whole family came down with influenza A and we were not able to make the booking, allowing us to rebook. The breakfast and breakfast staff were great. Front desk staff however were not very pleasant when I asked to possibly have 2 rooms together. I was made to feel like the error was entirely mine and I should know the exact configuration of their rooms and how to book them. I was polite at all times but this was not returned, much like the difference in room rate once we downgraded to be closer together (but still at opposite ends of the floor, not ideal with 2 small children). The king size bed had a queen size duvet, we only got 1 clean glass and 1 cup in place of the 2 of each that were dirty. The gym was very very basic and the residents in the room next to our non-adjoining room with an adjoining door had a screaming match for nearly 18 hours straight. I think the smaller details could have been overlooked had we felt welcome from the moment we arrived. But gone are the days that you spend $850 on a hotel and get customer service to match. It was my first and last stay at a holiday inn. In summary a 3 star hotel dressed up as a 4 star. Its new and shiny but other than a great location and good breakfast it doesnt offer much else.

Loved staying here. The hotel rooms are well set out with enough space for two people. The bathroom is small but functional and utilises one door that either divides the shower from the toilet or the whole bathroom from the rest of the room. It was very quiet in the room. Close to public transport and plenty of eating options. Best of all was the breakfast, which was included in the price. Plenty of gluten free options for me as a coeliac. The kitchen supervisor was super helpful and accommodating. The GF toaster and bread is located in the kitchen, so limits the chance of cross contamination. Will definitely stay here again.
