Well it is old and dated but comfortable enough for a short stay.
Plusses: close to the city centre easily walkable to river, gardens, cathedral ,restaurants, beds comfortable, good continental breakfast, staff helpful and friendly, highly rated restaurant next door (book), room safe.
Minuses: Not that easy to drive up to depending which direction you approach from (use your satnav!), no hotel parking but street parking around the corner (limited), bathroom facilities dated, no aircon but room fan, useless room fridge.
Street Parking you need to enter your car registration number, pay for more hours in the evening then you need and they will rollover to the next morning giving you extra time in bed.
Restaurants abound in Metz but one of the best according to Tripadvisor is next door - at least on a Friday you will need to book. EXCELLENT alternative at 6 Rue Gambetta opposite is Caves St Clement, primarily a wine shop but has limited menu with glasses of selected wines included If you like your wine and good simple cooking using excellent ingredients this is the place to go lunchtimes or Friday and Saturday evenings but definitely book.
Easy walking through the parks to the river where you can follow various promenades, hotel reception has maps, or you take to the water in canoes or pedalos for an alternative view. Plenty of summer evening events (2018) and loads of restaurants around the cathedral area all pretty full by 19:30.
Metz = a good place for a short visit
