Cozy Swedish Log Cabin with Loft in Peaceful Scandia - Enjoy the hygge Lifestyle

Experience the Swedish ''hygge'' lifestyle in this authentic log settler's cabin renovated to offer modern amenities in picturesque Scandia. Originally built in ca. 1860 by Swedish settlers just north of Scandia, this hand-hewn log cabin with dovetail corners was dismantled, moved, and renovated in 2023/2024 to our forested property. Look closely and you'll find the axe marks on the logs throughout the cabin! The outside logs are finished in traditional Swedish falun red pine tar, and the interior features tasteful Swedish antiques.

Relax and unwind in this cozy retreat featuring a loft bedroom with 2 queen beds and a twin fold-out bed; a large modern kitchen with an island and gas stove; a double bathroom equipped with all the essentials (includes two toilet areas with a shared double sink area and one shower).

The Great Room/Dining Room is open to the ceiling with log rafters overhead. Additional sleeping space in the Great Room includes a twin futon plus an available fold-out twin platform with mattress.

Scandia -- located in the St. Croix River Valley -- is home of the first Swedish settlement in Minnesota and multiple historic sites. The cultural gem Gammelgården Museum celebrates the Swedish immigrant story and includes two log settlers cabins and the town's original log church. The Hay Lake School Museum showcases a one-Room schoolhouse attended by local kids into the 1960s. Bring your kids/grandkids out and show them how families lived in the 1800s! Please note that the cabin is not handicap accessible, and access to the loft bedroom is via the steeply built original staircase.

Whether you're relaxing indoors or exploring the surrounding area, this enchanting cabin is the perfect getaway for guests looking to unwind and create lasting memories. The cabin is located 2.5 miles from William O'Brien State Park on the St. Croix River, 6 miles to Big Marine Park Reserve, and less than a mile from two DNR Scientific Natural Areas with hiking trails on the river bluff. Enjoy gorgeous hikes, kayaking, and nearby cross country ski trails. The beautiful Rustic Roots winery is less than two miles away and also includes forested hiking trails.

Scandia is midway between Stillwater and Taylors Falls on the St. Croix River, and just south of Lindstrom and Chisago Lakes, the setting for Vilhelm Moberg's book 'The Emigrants.' The Swedish Immigrant Regional Trail starting in Chisago Lakes is another outdoor option to explore.
