Pleasant, gorgeous views but avoid the restaurant!
The hotel is a throwback to a more elegant time, with spacious hallways and staircase, a garden with pool, and a restaurant on the pleasant terrace with gorgeous views. What a shame, then, that the restaurant service left us feeling irritated and angry. One of the waiters was pompous, condescending, and downright rude; instead of being helpful with the wine, he tried to impress with jargon, and rolled his eyes when we selected a "lesser" wine offered by the glass; when we decided on just a pasta course, his attitude was dismissive and haughty; when asked for dessert menus, he dropped them off and disappeared, and no one deigned to come back to take our order for the next 15 minutes.

Still good, but used to be better.
Not as good as it used to be, since they started using concentrates for breakfast juices, and now even charging for an omelette or fried eggs. The rooms are not well insulated, and can be noisy at full occupancy. On the positive side, they offer to pick-up/drop-off at the train station, have a good outdoor pool and several spa facilities. Not the worst location, but still a good walk uphill/downhill from the lake. We were able to loan bikes free of charge, but they were not well maintained in my opinion. They did offer a free chocolate egg for Easter, as well as a prize draw (although only one prize, and we were not lucky). It is my 2nd time at this hotel, my wife's 5th time, as it is possible to get good prices at non peak times. I think we'll look somewhere else next time though.

Wonderful
Superb hotel. Great facilities, good price and very clean. Only slight complaint is the restaurant is not quite up to the standard you expect given how expensive it is. The breakfast buffet, however is excellent.

Hotel was very nice and most of staff very friendly and helpful. Only issue is lack of transportation and distance to train station. Hotel car only provided to pick you up and drop you off once. Not to logical if the car is going to town anyway to take riders. Taking the bus leaves you with extreme uphill walk. Buses only run on a half hour schedule. Young man working the front desk on the weekend was extremely helpful and provided all the service he could. Dining room was nice and food was very acceptable. Only issue was a broken coffee machine and the line for coffee when working. Probably should have two coffee machines

Like a heaven,,
This is my second stay in Esplanade. Loved it so much that I could stay every season one week to taste the nature in Locarno. Located over the hills surrounded by trees with a look of classical and forever the best look of its natural way. I would advise anytime to spend some special time for yourselves,,

Comfortable hotel
This hotel was great. Huge rooms with balcony, and very comfortable beds. Fantastic view of the lake. It's further from town but so much nicer because it is quiet. The breakfast was amazing. We wish we had stayed another night or two.

Beautiful place by the lake
The room was a bit 'old fashioned' but functioned perfectly. Very large room overlooking the lake. Breakfast was amazing with made to order eggs. Free bikes, pool, hot tub (not very hot) and sauna made the hotel a great place to get away. Wish we didn't have rain the entire time!

Lacarno stay
The hotel is an oasis in Locarno. The staff were most helpful and the food was fabulous. The staff were entertaining, helpful and accommodating. The rooms were clean but small (but again this is Europe).

Just great for an one night stay
We were heading further, but wanted to break up the drive, so chose a one night stay here. I wish we'd booked to stay again on the return, as everything was just what we wanted. A large pool, a cosy room, great food and service in the restaurant, friendly staff and in a quite neighborhood.

Elegance on Lake Maggiore.
We really enjoyed our stay in Locarno and could quite easily have spent longer. The hotel arranged a complimentary transfer for us from the railway station following our journey from Zurich on the spectacular route through the St Gotthard tunnel. We were greeted warmly and introduced to the hotel and its facilities over a glass of chilled wine ! Our room was clean and comfortable with air conditioning which was an essential given the summer heat. We made extensive use of the pool and the sun-loungers in the garden and enjoyed excellent meals on the veranda on both evenings. The lakeside path is around 15 minutes walk away and the hotel will lend you bikes if you want to cycle into town. There is also a regular bus service into Locaron that continues to Ascona.

If money doesn't matter
This is a very nice located hotel close to the Lago Maggiore (10 minutes walking distance) in Minusio - close to Locarno, Switzerland. The Hotel itself is very nice, clean and the front desk team is just wonderful! They were very helpful in planning trips for the day, restaurant recommendations and very very friendly. There is a nice Spa in the basement and they also offer massages of various types. The big downside is that it is just a little overpriced. I don't recommend the restaurant, the food is not bad, it's just not worth the money, but you'll pay for the view sitting on the patio overviewing the lake. We had dinner the first evening and even though there were plenty of waiters around, they forgot us and kept us waiting for an hour for the main course. We had to remind them... this is not acceptable for 4 stars...

The Esplanade--I didn't want to leave!!!!
I traveled solo from Geneva for a one-night only concert at the Moon & Stars Festival and just needed a clean, convenient place to crash...but I got so much more!! The grounds are gorgeous with many gardens and breathtaking views of the mountains and Lake Maggiore. Also the rooms were very nice, contemporary, extremely clean, and spacious with satellite tv. The hotel is conveniently close to the train station and Piazza Grande. The included breakfast buffet was great. I really wish I would have extended my stay.
