Welcome to Draper’s Cottage – a wonderland for musicians and vintage lovers in the heart of East Nashville. Built by Mr. Draper in 1912 for his family, this historic home has only seen three owners in one hundred years! Current owner, songwriter and Appalachian Folk musician Jeni Hankins, shuttles between Nashville and London, and welcomes you to her home while she’s away.

Ten minutes from downtown, steps away from East Nashville’s fab Five Points shopping and dining district, Draper’s Cottage combines a vintage guest experience with all that you want to hear, see, and do in Nashville. Cool in the summer, warm in the winter, Draper’s Cottage is within a 10 to 20 minute walk to grocery stores, post office, bank, eateries, public library, vintage and record shops, salons, gift shops, and even a big art supply shop. It’s a super walkable neighborhood.

You’ll find all of the modern amenities like Fiber internet, a Smart Vizio TV, etc. But you’ll also feel like you’ve traveled back in time in this curated home. Soak in the history while you play Jeni’s piano, guitars, banjo, and mandolin. Have your own jam session on the old-fashioned porch where there are plenty of chairs and spots for drinks! Set up a photo shoot on the Eastlake sofa, in the cowboy rocker, or in the clawfoot tub. Jeni’s front porch has been the set for many a photo shoot! Sit back and watch a movie or listen to music. Jeni has everything from a Columbia Grafonola to iHeart Radio, from VHS to Chromecast. Her house is full of vinyl records, DVDs, tapes, CDs, etc. Browse Jeni’s library – everything from Dickens to Marilyn Monroe on her bookshelves, including a full set of The Oxford English Dictionary.

Confident stitchers are invited to use Jeni’s fully working Singer 201 electric in its sewing table and a Singer hand-crank machine. Paper, pens, pencils, scissors, tape, and a new wireless printer/copier/scanner, too, for projects. Write a song, write a novel, read, sew, or just sit on the porch and watch the house sparrows and eastern cottontail rabbits.

You will have access to the entire home. We will send you the access code by website messenger with the entry instructions.

This neighborhood is QUIET, so you’ll have plenty of calm, but if you’re looking for bright neon lights, there are four buses that take you directly from Jeni’s street to downtown in ten minutes. Not a fan of the bus? Save on parking costs downtown and grab a quick ride with Uber or Lyft. Want some energy closer to the house? How about Five Points which is only four blocks away! It’s home to bars, restaurants, and the famous Five Spot music venue of the TV series Nashville. Jeni has spent the last twelve years of her life touring and it’s her aim to make a space for you in her home that will feel just as nice as her favorite places to stay.

House looked abandoned and Hosting Company is difficult to communicate with.
I left the property shortly after arrival and contacted VRBO. The house felt as if it had not been visited in months (despite clean towels). There was a dead bird (old dead bird) on walking path, the lawn was overgrown and there was garbage in the bush. Probably blew in but still. The porch was in complete disarray, bird poop everywhere, furniture was extremely dirty and placed everywhere with no intention. When I walked in the house smelled so musty it took my breath away. As I opened all of the curtains, I came across a large cobweb (luckily i didn't see the maker). I went to plug in my phone and noticed the baseboards were caked in dust and cob-webs. There were car air fresheners in the vents, guessing to try and mask the smell? I just new I wouldn't sleep so I left. I just couldn't sleep there. I felt unsettled and not at home. And the smell was more than I could handle. I have been trying to get the refund the host stated I would get and yet nothing has happened. They keep telling me to cancel with in the VRBO system but obviously I can't because technically it is too late. They keep saying to have VRBO call them which they have multiple times and yet the host seems to have "missed" the call every time.

More of a museum than a place to stay.
The house was fairly cool, and the neighborhood was great! But, it felt like saying in a museum. There are signs everywhere about being careful interacting with everything at the property. It made for an uncomfortable stay of tiptoeing around. The house was musty and inflamed my allergies, and the bed was very hard. Cool place for a photo shoot, but not a very comfortable stay overall.

A bit of a disappointment
We chose this place because of the instruments that were available to play. Unfortunately, the Taylor guitar has a broken high E string, so unplayable. The other stringed instruments all have extremely old strings, so don’t sound so great. It said to have a jam on the porch so we tried to do that. It was Friday evening at 5 o’clock, and I will repeat that because I know it sounds absurd. It was 5 pm on a Friday and a neighbor showed up in front of the house and asked us to stop because he couldn’t hear his TV! So we didn’t play outside anymore. Also, the smaller of the two air mattresses has a leak.

Charming Vintage Cottage
This little house has experienced many years of love, and we were happy to be a part of that experience! The neighborhood is lovely for walking, the visiting neighborhood kitty is sweet and the birdhouses with baby birds on the covered front porch captivated us. We would definitely stay here again!

Wonderful experience.
This home was exactly as it was stated with a few nice exceptions. We have never stayed anywhere except hotels and this was so much better. So personal and our host call was so generous with her own personal history. She left a binder with places to go and explore and where to eat. Nice to find that there was a printer there also! We had concert tickets that had to be printed. Loved our time there! Highly recommend this quiet neighborhood in a quaint historic home.

This house just screams Nashville!
I chose this house because it makes me think of Dolly Parton/Nashville. The house is fantastic and I fell in love with the neighborhood! The neighbor was very friendly as well. As another reviewer said, the proximity of the house to downtown is perfect to Uber from which we did. I appreciate the owner opening up her home with her very important keepsakes to renters. We would love to rent it again in the future if available.

Eclectic.
The cottage is very quaint. This is an older home. So it has the look and feel of days gone by. The owner has gone to lengths to help you with your stay. There are little notes on everything giving the history of items she has collected. There is also a book the helps with ease of access to transportation, grocers, near by clubs and also brochures on local attractions and any local events in the area. The cottage is within walking distance to a couple of local pubs and restaurants. Downtown is only minutes away. Just an FYI. The neighbors on both side of the rental are as good as gold! And the little kitty comes out to talk/play in the morning and early evening. Needless to say we had a wonderful stay!

Wonderful stay!
We had an absolutely wonderful time staying here for a birthday weekend in Nashville. The neighborhood has great access to all the awesome restaurants, bars, and shopping that East Nashville has to offer. Easy access by Uber to downtown in 10-13 minutes. The home is decorated and preserved like a museum, there was always something new to discover and was well-stocked with everything we needed. Excellent communication from the hosts. Would definitely come back!

Charming, Quirky House in Great Neighborhood
We really enjoyed our stay in this charming, historical, musical house. Loved the historical write-ups here and there linked to meaningful items. Well-stocked with kitchen items, towels, bedding, etc. the location in East Nashville is lovely and really convenient to anywhere we wanted to go. We love to walk in the evenings and this neighborhood was great for that. I would absolutely stay here again if we found ourselves back in Nashville.

Adorable house little house with so much history. East Nashville is close to Broadway but still a very quiet neighborhood. We will definitely be back🙂 make sure you take the time to turn on the CD player, Jeni and Billy's music is really good! Love the song about Jeni's Grandpa.
