When I check in the hotel . The person at the front was nice . And he told me has roof top bar open to 10pm if I want dinner in the hotel. I was so excited because roof top bar same floor as my room . I when to the roof top bar around 7pm check it out and the person at the bar told they are close early at 8pm and I was surprised because reception was told me 10pm . And I ask him is okay I when back to room put down my luggage come back before 8pm to order food. He said okay will wait for me. After I put down luggage come back around 7:40-7:45pm the door was locked. I see thought the window saw still have customers inside and knock the door. One big gentlemen come open the door and told me the bar is closed. And I said only 7:45 not 8pm yet why not let me in order food ? And the person at the bar was told me I come back before 8pm . And the big guy said :”don’t care the bar is closed now not accept any customers. Omg . I wonder did his boss pay him to kick out customers? Omg

Hotel is a conference or event destination it is old and in need of renovation. Extra charge for valet parking where other places charging similar rates offer free parking. Roof bar is beautiful and location good

This was our fifth time visiting Newport and our first time staying at the Viking. We’d heard it’s really great so we were excited to splurge - $800/night. But what a dud! Dirty, tacky and terrible service. A few examples; the bathroom was dirty and had peeling tiles like you’d find in a Motel 6 in Oklahoma. The carpets throughout smelled like old stale sweat and the view from the room overlooked the parking lot. Speaking of parking it was not included in the $800/night but was an additional 50 bucks(!). Also, breakfast was not included, but set us back another $25/each. Overall the experience would have been fine if we’d been staying at a roadside motel in the Midwest, but for $800 bucks, in Newport, this was probably one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve had in many years.

HOTEL VIKING
The staff at the front desk wonderful and helpful. The cleaning staff was perfect. Hotel is in great location. Their only weak point was the rooftop bar, the bar guys made several mistakes with drinks and food.
