Guest access
The cottage is NOT at number 30, it is 100m PASSED the letterbox. It is situated in its own paddock, a paddock over from the house. It has its own driveway and can be accessed without needing to go through any of the rest of the property. Depending on which paddock animals are in, I will let you know how much of our land you can access before your stay, most of the time though, access to every paddock is safe (please close any gates you open).
Other things to note
The cottage is set up for guests so make yourself at home. The cottage access is not at the main house, number 30 letterbox, it is 100m further up the road.
Hunterville is the last place to buy things before you arrive here if coming via SH1, our local foursquare shuts around 7 pm. Closest supermarkets are in Marton, Taihape and Feilding.
Every day we are out doing chores with our animals, if you'd like to be part of this you are more than welcome. When you book your stay let me know if you are interested and I will provide a bit of a timetable of when we do things and what to expect, generally though can work in with you. Our timetable changes from month to month depending on what's going on. Never a big job, but can be quite a cool experience, especially for children or those without many country life experiences.
We have chickens that I normally let out and free range during the day, however, they can stay locked up though if needed so just let me know. If they come over to the cottage and be annoying, I will also lock them up, please just let me know. They are verrryyy friendly and curious!!
We have a chocolate labrador and a mini foxy, but they will be with us most of the time so should not bother you either. They are great with children but can get a little bit excited. Please let us know if they bother you at the cottage.
Across the road from the cottage there is a long paddock on top of the cliff. Be safe and don't go over the fence. You will see what I mean when you get here! It is a spectacular view and a great place to take a chair and watch the world go by!
Our road is reasonably quiet too, so of course make yourself at home going for a wander. I have some bike for kids and small adults, if you're interested in using them I will bring the bikes over to the cottage, just let me know.
Just down the hill from us is Vinegar Hill. Great place to take dogs and/or kids to the water! Mangaweka is not far away and there is river access there as well and a short bush walk. Check out our Guide Books for information on our local attractions and more.
As well a great place to stay, we do offer other experiences; massage, beauty therapy, animal experiences and pony rides/sessions, check out our website clifftopcottage co nz
Bringing Dogs
Thanks for wanting to bring your dog/s along with you on your stay. We are happy to offer this as an option with the following conditions
- Dogs are to be crated or bed trained if inside, they are not to be wandering the cottage and definitely not on furniture or beds
- We have a lot of farm animals here, so your dog must be under your control at all times, or tied up/crated
- All dog waste must be picked up and disposed of, either in pooh bags, or in the long grass over the road. A shovel for this can be found in the cottage car port
- Please do not use our spare blankets as dog blankets, a dog blanket and indoor bed can be provided if needed (please ask)
Extra Info
- We can provide a crate and chew proof lead if needed, please ask
- There is a vacuum cleaner behind the couch if you need to vacuum up any hair
- At the back of the cottage is a carport, which will provide plenty of under cover space should your dog be outside
- The cottage paddock is fenced, not well enough for little dogs though, so please be aware of this
- There is a water tub at the side of the cottage by the hose
- We also have dogs who are good with other dogs, but if your dog doesn’t like other dogs let us know and we will keep ours confined to our house section
- Let us know your time of arrival as best you can so we can make sure our dogs are managed when you arrive
Basically if you are bringing a dog, by the time you leave there should be no evidence a dog was present. Failure to adhere to the above expectations will result in you being billed a $50 inconvenience fee, payable immediately.
Thanks so much for understanding our expectations, unfortunately we have had a lot of disrespectful dog owners and are considering no longer allowing dogs to come, but we are hoping with clearer expectations it doesn’t have to come to this.
