Miserable arrival experience
This has never happened before with a VRBO. We arrived at night, at the expected time. Had trouble finding the place, because the billboard we were told to watch out for faced the opposite direction as we came from the airport on the only main road. We pulled into the small drive (the car's rear end was just off the main road) to find a closed gate. There was an open door, but the gate was solidly shut. I went in, found the lockbox, and got the house key as directed. Tried to open the gate manually -- instructions had said it would be open -- with no luck. Did I mention it was raining? It was raining. I got back into the car and tried to phone the contact numbers. Left one message; another number didn't pick up. Finally I texted the third of three different numbers and actually got someone, who told me the gate was open or could be pushed manually. I tried again. It couldn't. "Oh, then you have to use the bip." What bip? "It should be in the lockbox." It wasn't. "Oh, it must not fit in the lockbox. Have you gone into the house and searched for the bip?" No, because I had no idea I needed one. By this point it's about 45 minutes after our arrival at the gate, and we're really frustrated. I'm running out of characters here, but it turns out the bip (never heard the term before) was on a table. So we finally got in, but nothing can make up for the wet, miserable experience we'd had. PS: I wrote all this to the StayInn contact afterwards, received no reply.
