If you want to venture further afield and have a keen interest on local produce, the Mossman Markets are the place to be. Located under the canopy of the awe-inspiring rain trees and next to the historic St. David’s Anglican church, here you will meet the locals who have been farming and living in this region for generations. Purchase giant exotic fruits, vegetables and lush herbs and spices – all grown with the help of the tropics. Here, the early bird catches the worm, so make sure you get here before midday every Saturday.
The Great Dividing Range is not only a backdrop in the scenery, it’s an adventure tour. A walking track, a mountain bike race course, a horse riding trail and more. If you prefer wheels, take on the historic ‘Bump Track’ on a mountain bike or tackle it as part of the RRR Mountain Bike Challenge. Love hiking? Climb ‘Devil’s Thumb’ for an amazing view at the summit and a rewarding downhill return.
The Coral Sea and the Great Barrier Reef is an underwater movie for divers and snorkelers, a great view from the top of a Stand Up Paddle-board, an ocean of dreams for a game fishing expedition. Daintree Rainforest
The Daintree National Park holds the site of the oldest living rainforest on earth, the Daintree Rainforest. It is the only place in the world where two World Heritage-listed sites meet, the Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef.
Consisting of nearly 900 000 hectares, this rainforest is the most unique in the world. Vegetation is primarily tropical rainforest, but also includes open eucalypt forest, wetlands and mangrove forests. The area meets all natural criteria for World Heritage listing including the area’s exceptional natural beauty and the importance of its biological diversity and evolutionary history, including habitats for numerous threatened species.
