This was a great place to stay, the drive over to Akoroa the next day was a bit hair raising however!

Rustic escape!
Mike is an excellent host and both the property and the location are great! Don't expect all the mod cons because this is a rustic escape to simply switch off! We did find the bed to be quite uncomfortable, unfortunately, but the stars at night were amazing.

Hibernation hideaway
Our second time here and will be back. Such a perfect hideaway for a few days recharging. Lovely and cosy. Its very rustic in style but has everything needed for a few days off grid.

It was ok time of year didn’t help
Time of year didnt help our stay here. As window in bathroom didnt close and gaps around window in loft room with mattress on floor and not able to stand up bedding felt like it wasn’t washed from last time , coffee was hard luckily we took our own. I did love the rustic look however it was a bit too rustic no one slept well. Lovely owner .

Tidy and quiet
Secluded, quiet location. Great for some time away from internet and cellphone reception. Well equipped kitchen and tidy modern amenities for an old cabin. Cosy loft area with extra beds. Air can be a little chilly at night but beds are warm with lots of extra blankets/duvets available, and there are plenty of heaters. You may hear possums on the roof in the night. Road in from one direction (Port Levy) was a bit churned up by logging trucks when we visited, but the road in the other direction (Little River) was fine.

we (grandparents, 2 grandsons and dog) all enjoyed our stay at the old stables. We loved the quirky building, the peaceful environment, the ambiance. we appreciate the attention to detail, with all the vintage items that decorate this cosy place.

Beautiful rustic NZ
Thanks so much Mike, we had a lovely time staying in the old wood shed stables. The work gone into this space is awesome, gorgeous native timber, insulated walls and ceiling at least, comfortable bed with electric blankets, hot shower, coal range stove used with wood, electric heaters if required also. We stayed in wintery july in stormy weather and we were toasty warm. Beautiful spot to just read books, play cards, have some wine n cheese etc. Close to DOC walks up on the ridge with old tōtara rejuvenating forest.

Hidden gem

Perfect Getaway
Pictures don't do it justice, we had an amazing 2 night stay with our wee dog. So peaceful, the landscape is amazing for adventure walks, and no TV meant we spent time just hanging out. No kids with us, but I'm sure they would find the loft bedroom that opens out onto the back upper deck super fun. We will be back!

Secluded Rustic Getaway
Great spot to getaway for a couple of days. The old rustic cottage has been fitted-out with a modern kitchen & bathroom, and some insulation, with a few heaters thrown in for good measure. Great if you want something a little more than a DOC hut and are used to being in the great outdoors. Loved the loft for the kids - best for primary school age, although there is a secure gate that does enable it for use by toddlers, as we did. Close enough to the farm house if you need assistance yet visually separated. Well sheltered - if you want a view down to Port Levy there is another cottage on this property which has one.

Get away from it all.
A lovely cottage to escape to and the photos don't do it justice. It looks like it has been cobbled together with local timber. There is a coal range and an old wireless radio. The fridge is hidden in a wool press and the nick nacks scream vintage Nz from huricane lanterns and vintage tins to old bottles and hand sheep shears It is cosy and the shower with its large round copper shower head is amazing after a hike though the bush around the farm. Somewhere we could play cards all night ! Like a flash trampers hut in a peaceful part of the world. If this is your style you will love it.

Gorgeous rustic bach
This is a gorgeous rustic bach. If you are looking for a spot away from it all, and love the simple things, this is perfect. Its clean, welcoming and has everything you need. It was perfect for our wee family. If you are after a hotel like experience, I wouldn't recommend!! Thanks for everything Mike!
