Hand Crafted Log Cabin On The Salmon River With Private Sand Beach

This quaint, rustic hand crafted log cabin on the Salmon River has views of the river and rugged canyon peaks that you will never forget . We are 5 miles upriver from the town of Riggins. The 24 hour sound system is provided by the big river whitewater and Cat Creek tumbling down beside the cabin. Only our guests and the owners and their families have vehicle access to a beautiful calm water swimming beach at the lower end of the property. The occasional rafter or boater have access to the mean high water line. Tie up your jet boat, drift boat or raft on the beach. You can also launch a raft or drift boat from the beach and for larger boats there are launches a mile or two down river with easy water all the way.

The cozy rustic Cat Creek cabin has 2 bedrooms upstairs with a Queen and single bed in the main room, the second room has a Double and single bed. The stairs are narrow and steep and not suitable for some people. The bathroom is located on the main floor, it has a shower tub and stackable washer/Dryer. The kitchen has everything you will need to prepare home cooked meals, you just need to bring the groceries. The open floor plan has a dinning area and a modest living area . No matter where you choose to sit you have a view of the majestic Salmon River canyon. The spacious deck has a propane grill , picnic table along with chairs to sit out and enjoy watching the river flow by and Bald Eagles soar. It is air conditioned for the summer months and a glass front wood stove along with electric heat for the cool months, wood can be purchased in Riggins. The cabin has a StarLink satellite system , the cabin may be isolated, but one should be able to connect to most anything, and a new smart tv is located in the living room, and WiFi calling should allow calls and texts to be made.

We are in the heart of the largest concentration of National Forest public lands in the U.S. and a few miles up the road is the Frank Church Wilderness, the wildest piece of unroaded real estate in the continental U.S. . Our neighborhood is host to deer, elk, big horn sheep, mountain lion, mountain goat, grey wolf, black bear, golden eagle, osprey, bald eagle, salmon, steelhead, cutthroat trout, rainbow trout to name a few.

The Salmon River is the longest undamed river in the lower 48 and is appropriately named. The pole snapping Chinook salmon show up in May-June and the fall steelhead run starts in September and goes until spring. You can hire professional drift and jet boat guides in Riggins or try your luck in the Cat Creek Hole out your front door.

Our back yard abuts public lands and for the the hunter it is not likely you will see anyone else, it is steep and rugged, not recommended for those looking for a stroll in the woods.

The Salmon River is world class whitewater. You can take one of the most exciting 1/2 day whitewater raft trips in the west from Riggins or for an extended adventure, a 5 day trip thru the magnificent River of No Return Wilderness in relative comfort with one of the many professional outfitters.

And don’t forget your surfboard. Just up from our beach is the locally known Freedom Surf Wave. Its an easy paddle across the river and a short walk to the wave. If you plan on using the beach during the summer we recommend a shade device that withstand wind gusts, for those not equipped with a shade device one can be available for a modest fee upon request.

Riggins is located in the heart of Idaho, centrally located between Boise to the south. Spokane WA to the northwest and Missoula MT to the east. All 3 locations offer direct flight to and from several larger cities. All 3 offer unique sightseeing on the drive to Riggins.
Make yourself comfortable in this air-conditioned cabin, featuring a kitchen with a refrigerator and an oven. There's a private patio. Complimentary wireless internet access keeps you connected, and a DVD player is provided for your entertainment. Conveniences include a microwave and a coffee/tea maker, and housekeeping is provided on a limited basis.
This smoke-free cabin features books, kayaking nearby, and rafting nearby. Recreational activities include mountain biking nearby.
Guests will find features like internet access and onsite parking.

Great beach!
The property is very nice. It was great to have a private beach. The house needs a bit more cleaning. When we pulled out the Hide-a bed, there was a lot of mouse poop and also the the cupboards had mouse poop.

spring hike
We have stayed at this delightful property several times in the past. We use this as our base for hiking and fishing and watching the local wildlife. From the covered porch you can watch deer, elk, quail, doves, coyotes and several different colorful songbirds. The river always has whitewater rafters floating down or Jet boats going up & down. This property has everything you need for a great stay.

A little piece of heaven
This is the second time we’ve stayed here, and we have never returned to the same place twice. This place is that special to my wife and I so when her aunt from France decided to visit us we immediately knew where to go. The owners were very friendly and helpful with our stay.

spectacular view
You just cannot beat the view from this very clean, comfortable, cozy cabin on the hill. The beach access was very nice too. We saw some young deer on the hill right outside the back door. Even though the cabin seems remote, which we really liked, the town of Riggins is an easy 10 minute drive for groceries and restaurants. Communication with the owner was easy, check in and out was easy. Loved this place!!!!

Cat Creek Cabin
This cabin is in the most amazing location and the views (360) are stunning. When we were not out riding around the national forests we were on the porch of the cabin. We would sit on front porch for awhile and then move to side porch and back and forth. Saw a few elk. We experienced a horrific storm one night with hail, lightening and high winds. While scary it was also exhilarating! The sliding door was shaking from the wind but never felt the cabin move. It was sturdy. During storm I saw two big round objects coming down side of mountain toward cabin. Due to it being dark I could not make out for certain what it was but think it may have been bears. Interior of cabin is rustic but we were ok with that. Had problems with hot water heater first night but it was a thrown breaker so easy fix. Water pressure in shower was very low. Hard to rinse off soap and shampoo. All was communicated to Margaret, the host, who responded quickly with our concerns. Margaret was also a joy to talk with. We would definitely stay here again! None of these reviews including my review can give justice to the 360 view of this cabin. Memories of Cat Creek cabin will be with me forever!!

return to Cat Creek Cabin
This is our second visit to cat Creek cabin and we are returning again in a few weeks. The cabin is very nice with all the amenities one could desire. The view is spectacular in every direction. The location is ideal only a few minutes to Riggins, but totally private. Cannot wait to return, will probably try to book again for the fall.

Overpriced?
My hubby n I have been wanting to stay at this cabin for years and we finally saved up enough to go. The cabin wasn’t exactly what we were expecting and for the price that was disappointing. Very old, uncomfortable furniture - not for lounging. Needed a deep spring cleaning (we were first of the season). Dead mouse fell out of one of the blankets. Very chilly n windy so we couldn’t enjoy the porch as much as we wanted but when we did….STUNNING! The location and beach are the cats meow with this place and thank goodness for decent enough weather we could enjoy some fires on the beach. Water pressure in shower shut off at one point, but they were having water issues before we arrived and were very communicative about it all. Anyway, while we’re glad we finally got to stay at Cats Creek we’ll probably check out other properties that are similarly priced but with more comfortable accommodations.

Peaceful Weekend
We absolutely loved the cabin... Super clean ! The deck has just a stunning view and the private beach is an absolute GEM to have access too... My aunt was beyond happy with the location ! The internet was slow for my husband to work from the cabin, BUT on my phone it was ok, but we really don't care about that (the hubby did though.. lol) ... other than that, it was perfect... The stairs are a bit steep for someone who has mobility issues, but again, my 82 year old aunt did fine with them... We will absolutely be RETURN GUESTS each year !!! Thank you for having us !
