About this property

Country Cottage on 80 acres

Our guesthouse is situated on an old Finnish homestead, on the traditional lands of the Anishinabek and Mississauga Nations. The property is a mix of field, wetland and forest, along with our one acre market garden. Trails are marked, and a trail map is provided during your stay.

The guesthouse is a brand new accommodation that we've built on our farm. Although the accommodation is completely private for our guests, the guesthouse is situated close to our house, where we live and work.

The guesthouse is a commercial building, with adherence to strict fire safety regulations. We have put a lot of effort into finishing the building to provide you with a clean, open and comfortable space. We used sustainable practices and materials wherever possible to make the building as eco-friendly as we could.

Guesthouse Description:
Upstairs, there are three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Two bedrooms are the same, each with one double/single bunk and one single/single bunk. Each of those rooms can sleep five people. The bunk beds are handmade for adults and are very solid. The third bedroom has a queen bed and sleeps two. There are two bathrooms upstairs. Each has a shower, sink and toilet. There is a small sitting nook at the top of the stairs with a beautiful view outside. A perfect place to read!

Our guesthouse has a fully inspected commercial kitchen on the main floor, with a dining room and living room. We have a good assortment of pots and pans, along with other functional kitchen items like bakeware, measuring cups, spoons, graters, citrus juicer, etc. All cutlery, cups and plates are provided. The stove is a gas top with an electric oven. Because it’s a commercial kitchen, there are numerous sinks. Please note the sinks are deep, and you need to bend over more for washing dishes. We can share a washing tip with you when you arrive to help make it more comfortable.

Off the main area, there's a large screened-in porch that can be used in warmer weather. It’s a lovely place to be during hot days! There is a picnic table on the porch that sits 12 and Muskoka chairs for more relaxed sitting. The BBQ is right outside the porch, and the firepit is close by. For those of you cycling, we have bike racks outside, along with a bike wash station in the summer.

We provide complimentary tea, fair trade/organic coffee and basic cooking supplies like salt, pepper, cooking oil and sugar, along with a few spices that have been grown and dried on-site.

There is a washer and dryer in the large bathroom for use at an extra cost. If you need to use the laundry, please ask in advance, and we’ll get you set up. We will provide the laundry detergent.

As we operate on a septic system, we also provide complimentary eco-friendly and septic friendly dish soap, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner and bodywash. We ask that you consider using these instead of bringing your own products.

We have a small selection of books to read and a few board games.

For walking on the trails between spring and summer, we recommend sturdy walking shoes or rubber boots, and as we are close to two public beaches, bring your suits and towels if you'd like some beach time!

Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the guesthouse and our trails. On the property, we ask that you stay on our main trail, which loops around a large portion of the acreage. Our house and barn are on the other side of the driveway, behind the trees which we reserve as our own space.

We live next to the guesthouse (with trees between for privacy), and we are usually home or around the farm. You will have complete privacy inside the guesthouse during your stay, but you will likely see us walking by on the trail or see us while out on the trail. We have a large and very friendly dog that is usually by our side. We will respect your privacy, but if you need anything, we are close by for help!

Other Notes:
We are situated between two small towns with few amenities. If there are specific items you'd like, please bring them with you. We don't have snowshoes or fat bikes to lend out, but we can recommend rental businesses if you are interested.

We live on the farm beside the guesthouse. Sound travels very easily around our neighbourhood, even though you can’t visually see our neighbours. We ask that you are respectful of the amount of noise you make. If you are coming here to play loud music or party, this is not the right place for you.

Our rural Wifi is included but certainly not the fastest. We don't recommend it is for downloading music, movies, etc. If there is something specific you need during your stay, we recommend downloading it prior to your visit. We will not provide any refunds if the Wifi is not available for your stay. Our guesthouse is an opportunity to spend more time outside and connect with nature.

Come experience winter! Get cozy in the quiet guesthouse on our farm. With on-site snowshoe and fat bike trails, a hill for tobogganing and an outdoor fire pit, there is non-stop fun in the winter! We are only 35 minutes from the popular skate trail and groomed cross country ski trails at Arrowhead Provincial Park. In spring, summer or fall, discover the fantastic road cycling routes in the area, swim at nearby beaches, walk our farm trails or simply relax in the screened-in porch! On clear nights, the star gazing from the fire pit is amazing.

As a rural property, we recommend bug jackets for peak 'buzz' times of the year. The large screened-in porch allows you to relax outside without being pestered.

House Rules:
1. No parties, loud music or excessive noise. We will ask once, and if this is not resolved, we will ask you to leave. This is a nature farm stay in a rural neighbourhood. If you want to let loose and be loud, this is not the right place for you to stay.
2. No smoking inside the guesthouse and porch. If you smoke, please smoke away from the building and use the can provided to put your butts into afterwards.
3. Do not feed wildlife or leave food around.
4. Remove your outdoor footwear at the entrance. We recommend bringing a pair of slippers for indoors!
5. If you are leaving for the day, please close the windows in the case of rain or an unexpected storm.
6. Guests must follow the fire restrictions in place by Ryerson Township.
7. No food scraps, dirt or grease down the sink drains.
8. Only human waste and toilet paper should go in the toilets (no kleenex, paper towel, tampons, pads, wipes, etc.). This will help us keep our septic healthy and avoid any malfunctions! Most products used in daily life are not good for these systems. We ask you to consider leaving your regular products at home and use the soaps, shampoo and conditioner we provide (both earth friendly and septic friendly).
9. Please follow our guidelines for using the commercial kitchen, provided on-site.

Best getaway
The place was amazing. From the time i booked the place, to till we left, both Rob and Julia were wonderful. They are the sweetest owners ever. Definitely check out their organic garden and please ensure you purchase some of the vegetables as they are super yummy. Overall, we were a group of 10 and had ton of fun. Thank you Rob and Julia for making our weekend getaway a very memorable one indeed. 10 out of 10 for everything 👍😊❤️
