This is a cute, quirky, quaint hotel. The staff was top notch. It is in the historic Hotel Saint James once the tallest building in SD. The elevators are a challenge as they are the originals installed in 1913 - not easy to open/close. Not nearly enough outlets in the rooms and the rooms are tight. Neighborhood was perfect for us.

Sub par at best
Honestly I was pretty disappointed in this hotel considering the cost and the brand. For being valet, parking at the hotel is a pain as the crew is disorganized to the point they lost the keys for a car and were less than helpful for the $60 a day. The front desk lady couldn't bother to even look up from her computer or say hello upon check in though she was plenty cordial with other couples. The elevators, while historic, are a pain to navigate with luggage so don't even begin to consider this place if you have a wheelchair or mobility issues. Our room was interior facing with a rattling air conditioner that the front desk was unwilling to have someone take a look at. Then once you go to leave for an evening, you have to deal with the crowds out front waiting to get into the comedy club or the frat bar. For the price and image Palihotel gives off, I expected better and wouldn't recommend to anyone I cared about.

Excellent service, we arrived quite early (about 6 am) and they had our room ready, that made quite a difference because we were able to sleep in our room and not wait until 3 pm to check in. We are so thankful and definitely will return! The hotel is a gem, beautiful and well kept, very friendly staff

We had high hopes…
I was greeted by a very friendly desk clerk and was really impressed with how beautifully ornate the lobby was, so I was hopeful and excited about our first nights in San Diego! First, the elevator was an antique, small, and a real challenge. Once we got to the room, it was really small but well appointed, clean- and hot. The air conditioner really struggled all night, and the system itself was horribly loud. It was really difficult to sleep. While I appreciated the “available for purchase” snacks and stocked fridge, it took up a considerable amount of what little space we had in the room. There was nothing complimentary- except the gummy bears in the lobby. No coffee, water, ice…and the adjacent restaurant/bar was just ok and very expensive. No parking but valet was available for $60 overnight. (Those guys were really helpful and friendly.) The location was great, but I did feel a little uncomfortable with the naked homeless man just outside and to the right of the entrance. We did like the rooftop bar, but they were “out of beer” on a Saturday night at 7:30 PM?!? I don’t get that at all. All in all, if I were to do my first nights in a beautiful city I’d never been to all over again, I’d stay somewhere else.

Cool hotel but idk if I would stay here again unless it was $150 a night or less. Cool boutique old style hotel but idk, something just seems off. Cool creepy vibes, would be cool in October! Also, the shutter being right next to the shower head was definitely an off choice. lol.

Concert at PetCo (Jane’s Addiction stayed here)
Stayed at this hotel for a concert I was going to at PetCo park. The hotel is charming, very clean, and historic. It is an old hotel so keep that in mind, but don’t let that stop you it’s a very nice place to stay. The restaurant has the best hamburgers! The concert I was attending was the band Jane’s Addiction and as it turned out I ran into a member of the band that was also staying at this hotel. If it’s good enough for a band as big as Jane’s Addiction it’s certainly a good hotel.
