Compared to our little Colorado mountain town, where camping, hiking, and fishing are the main options, visitors to Santa Fe have a more extensive and relatively elegant menu of activities to choose from. For us, that meant treating ourselves to luxurious accommodations as well. Because we were planning to spend time on Canyon Road this visit, we picked AdobeStar’s Delgado compound (Unit A).
Bingo.
With its dedicated off-street parking in the quiet, east-side neighborhood, the Delgado compound is a long block from the heart of Canyon Road and a bit under a half-mile from the downtown Plaza. Unit A has a nice-sized bedroom and a sumptuous main room with a very well-equipped kitchen – the photographs don’t really do it justice. While we had no use for the two fireplaces (it was early September, and hot), in cooler weather these would provide both heat and additional ambiance. For us, the air conditioning, with separate thermostats for the two rooms, was just right. Also just right was the en-suite bath – double sinks and a shower to die for.
And, thank you very much, the place was not overwhelmed by the usual Santa Fe assortment of southwestern tchotchkes – the three tasteful paintings were just right.
It’s hard to see how this could have been better.
